Just that really. Like an antenatal thread but for parents of children starting primary in Sept.

We have our taster afternoon in a couple of weeks - it all feels so alien. Haven't felt this out of it since I bought my 1st pack of nappies and got the giggles at the checkout!

Adding to the register:

treedelivery has dd1 age 4.10 on 1st day. Does own dressing and academic stuff. Does not do bowel control, eating or relaxing. Todays 'Mamma worries' score 6/10

teafortwo has one dd will be 3.4 on first day. This is the age all children start school in Paris (where milk and tea live). Butterflies are us - but in a good way !

norksinmywaistband has dd 4.9 on first day, very keen to start. Knows her numbers and letters, and write her own name - in a fashion. She has poo issues and I am worried about tantrums toward end of day as she gets very stroppy when tired

golgi has son 4.8 on first day. Can do numbers, letters, read some words. Will not pick up pen or pencil or dress himself. Still has a nap after lunch if given half a chance.

pigswithflu - one ds (4.2) on first day. Improving with own dressing but often all wrong way round. Can read whole sentences (proud mummy alert), good at maths but barely writes something akin to name. Buttons and bum wiping on to do list for summer hols.

Acinonyx has one dd will be 4.1 starting school. Major toilet issues and very shy. Draws well, writes, counts and does some very simple sums but no reading.

Pinktulips has one dd (4.7) starting in sept. toilet issues, chronic shyness and hates letters and counting. has master bum wiping but buttons still a tricky one. she's great at drawing and things involving fine motor skills though (puzzles and crafty things)

Wheelybug has dd who will be 4.7. Beginning to read and does other academic stuff hanks to a good pre-school but talks far too much so will probably spent most of her time being told to talk less and listen more.

Swissmiss has DS who will be 4.8 on first day. Not really interested in the academic stuff, much prefers to be making stuff. Can dress / wipe bottom but prefers not so it is the source of many a frustation on both our parts. Like Wheelybug's dd he talks a lot and will spend most of his time being told to talk less and listen more.

He was fine, been going since half term, they have 2hrs every Monday so come Sept they're all well used to the basics. Comes home with new words (flash cards) and a different book every week. Must remember to look at them more during the week and not just on Monday morning whilst trying to get everyone out the house on time!

I'm glad I actually now know what happened rather that having the chat behind the back that I've already seen! I've been invited to a book sale morning, like Usbourne but not, by one of the other mums next Monday morning so I'll pop back to drop off DD1 at playgroup and then go to it. Seems like a good chance to get to know the other mums a bit.

a boy and a girl from dd's playschool are going to the same primary. She was going to be the only one. Hurrah hurrah hurrah!

Also got a little booklet from them today so that is lovely.

treedelivery - Yes, DD's bowels are a problem, though having speed read thru the thread, i would say that you poor little DD seems to be suffering more . I keep telling myself there are worse things, but it still gets me down. Thought we had cracked it (we can go weeks without problems now - hurrah!) but then yesterday another accident. I hope it was a one off.

Good to hear that your DD will know a couple of children.

I have had it both ways. DS know nobody when he started because we had just moved to the area, while DD will know more than half of her class when she starts os they have all been to the local pre-school.

swissmiss, how horrid for you but at least the other mums don't hold you responsible at all, twas the LEA to blame. book thingy sounds cool, it's always nice to know the other parents a bit, especially in a smallclass.

Can do buttons, and get dressed, eats like a horse, knows alphabet, numbers, simple sums, can read (well, spells out words phonically and then says what word is, and just beginning to know whole words by sight iyswim?). no inclination to write at all. Good bum wiper, but cannot blow nose. Is terrible telltale, and huge perceiver of non-existent injustices, the constant communication of which, I fear, will make her unpopular with teachers.

bum wiping.... i only solved it recently by explaining to dd that with a new baby i simply couldn't come running to wipe her bum every time so she could either sit there for however long it took me to get to her or do it herself.

she swiftly got bored of sitting on the loo for ages on end

now she blocks the toilets putting too muc paper down them

Well today my mamma worry score has increased to 10/10.
DD has had 4 pairs of dirty knickers due to poo problem, and if she does make to the toilet in time which she did first thing this morning and attempts to wipe her own bottom, she is not very sucessful - very concerned she is going to be the smelly child

DD explained to me yesterday that the reason she could not wipe her own bottom was because 'it is behind me'

What a design fault, surely somebody hould change the whole human biology so that our bottoms are not behind us?

She won't be the smelly child. It's too young for all that stuff anyway, and going by this thread nearly all of them will have the same issue, and that smell was more to do with being unclean for a long time and having dirty clothes.

My dd wipes herself after wee. That is she gets up, wanders about, rolls off 6 metres of papaer, wafts a bit around her 'front bottom', makes a snowman from any remaining loo roll, puts it all down, wanders off with knickers down.

On poo, I have always done it for her as the movicol poo is a squidgy beast!

Maybe I should put that on our sumer to do list too.

I haven't had the joy of movicol poo as still in early stages, Have had suppository induced poo, overflow poo and now lactulose induced poo, none of which are fun

There does seem to be a lot of us with problem pooers this year, and not just wiping issues

Well, ours was cured...cured...with a visit to the chiropractor. Truly.

I wonder why though. DD eats well, not brilliant (fairly small appetite, bit fussy with veg, better with fruit), but well enough. Yet constipation is still a problem. At least the movicol is working, which I am happy about. Got to go back to see GP in June (well now then!) and I am hoping he repeats her prescription. I'm sure he will.

Ooh ooh, my pfb starts school in september, she is totally ready in so many ways, she can mostly wipe her bottom, she can write everyones name, she is driving me mad at home but, she's my baby and she is a little bit shy.

The things i'm worried about are, she's going to a girls school with a very small class, only 7. I know its not the worst thing but i'm really really anxious about the dynamics of the group. The other thing is she is horribly scruffy, she has unruly hair and no matter how many clips etc i put in her hair she has removed the lot, chewed the ends and wiped her mouth/nose on her sleeve . I'm trying hard to break these habits to no avail.

Wolfnipplechips dd is 4.7 in sept, can dress herself, wipebum and write names. Loves drawing, craftyness and ballet. Is left handed so struggles a bit with letter formation. Is a scruffy child and her dm and db are going to miss her terribly

Fruitful has DS1 who will be 4.7, starting full-time the second week. Can just about write his name, can mostly get dressed except for jumpers for some reason, can't wipe his bum but has completely mastered the art of only ever pooing at home
