Wondered if hand holding for Sept newbies would be nice?

Just that really. Like an antenatal thread but for parents of children starting primary in Sept.

We have our taster afternoon in a couple of weeks - it all feels so alien. Haven't felt this out of it since I bought my 1st pack of nappies and got the giggles at the checkout!

Have to disagree with you there, DCMB, as I have used M&S polo shirts for 5 years and they have never shrunk when tumble dried.

blametheparents · 21/06/2009 09:37

Could I join to please?

My Dd starts school in September. It is a 2 form intake school, and last week we found out who her teacher will be and which children will be in her class. We are very lucky in that she has a great teacher, and has lots of her friends from pre-school in her class.
Taster session is forst week in July.
She is very excited.

Looking forward to hearing other people's news xxx

thanks don'tcallmebaby, will be talking to other mums this tuesday on the first school visiting session.

treedelivery · 21/06/2009 15:16

Have ordered name tags - Cash's for old times sake, plus some stickers with a horse on, as chosen by the women herself. Then some shoe stickers with pigs on from a different site.

Hurrah!

Going on M&S online size guide, DD1 needs a 2yo waist, 18 month hips and 4yo height.

I have been carried away by the wave of preparedness on this thread and ordered name tapes too. Haven't got any uniform to put them in yet though....will try to find out more about this next week.
Ours is a small village school, a lot of the children have elder siblings and/or parents went there themselves, so I think there's a bit of "everyone knows how it works so we don't need to mention it" going on. I find it hard not being at the school gates ever - certainly makes it tricky to make friends with other mums.

Can I join too???

I have a DS starting in September as well-he's so looking forward to it (well he is at the moment!) but I am a nervous wreck lol!!

He's a February birthday so is going full time from September...at least I presume he is because we haven't even had any information yet cause parents meeting isn't until this wednesday!!

Have got uniform all sorted-well at least the stuff I can buy now! Ive got 5 pairs of trousers (massively too long but mil can take them up the week before he starts if still too long by then!) and 6 polo shirts cause came in packs of 3! Have got trousers from M&S (before the 3 for 2 came on GRRRRRR!) and polo shirts from Next cause they seem to be the only ones that came in right proportions (am I the only one with a weirdly sized child??!)

have got velcro plimsolls even though school brochure says must be elastic ones as DS has huge feet and no chance of getting elastic ones on...so its just tough!! Im sure that will be my first of many rebellions against the school!!

So whats everyone worried about then? Im concerned about toilets and stuff...DS is brilliant at nursery cause he can go when he pleases but do they have to actually ask to go at school?? Oh err so much to think about lol!!

golgi · 21/06/2009 23:08

I'm worried about everything. My son is....a bit of an individual shall we say, I'm not sure how he's going to fit in to being told what to do. Although perhaps it's just me he takes no notice of! He hasn't really mentioned any friends from nursery (he goes 3 mornings a week, most of the children there will go up to the school with him) - although he does seem to have two "enemies". He said to me the other day that he hopes boy A and boy B get swine flu!

treedelivery · 21/06/2009 23:31

I just can't get my head around how teachers do it.

My dd can write basic alphabet, add, subtract, divide, multiply, do phonics to some extent, tell the time in a fair way - but will get ulcers by 6 as she is a worry wart and a stress head. Though she is fun.

lad she plays with at playschool has no more inclination to fiddle about with sums than I do. He laughs and smiles and jokes all day. He's physical and bouncy and sunny.

How can they make head or tale of them all???????

treedelivery · 21/06/2009 23:35

golgi - I'm ok with toilets as hers are in the corner of their room! So she should get there in time as long as the teachers let them visit when they need too. But she'll sit with her hand up waiting for permission, and if no one see's her then she'll poo herself. Rather than demand attention out of turn and go against the rule. That worries me.

Oh my baby!!

My biggest worry is girls and the cliques and dd's total inability to chill out with anyone but me and her immediate family. And only then with 'management'.

She'll be lonely me thinks. Sob.

Hello my name is teafortwo and milkfortwo (dd) will be starting school in September....

I have asked beerfortwo (dh) to take milk's first day at school off work.... no no no - not for her - 'tis to support me!!!!

Lazycow · 22/06/2009 00:04

Well ds starts what would have been his reception yer but is now called F2 or F1 (I think)

The only thing is that he will be staying at his nursery (actually called a foundation school) as the reception year at his school is held on the nursery site ]. So he will be there but going 9-3.30pm every day and no uniform so tbh it doesn't really feel like he is starting schol yet.

That will all come next year for year 1

treedelivery · 22/06/2009 00:12

Welcome and come on in. Pull up a chair and take a load off.

There will be lots of shopping and toilet issues to be discussed these coming weeks!

I thought of a register [although someone else did futher back really ] Thought I'd kick it off, but don't continue it if it's naff...........

treedelivery has dd1 age 4.10 on 1st day. Does own dressing and academic stuff. Does not do bowel control, eating or relaxing. Todays 'Mamma worries' score 6/10

Gives up decides to sit here and drink lots of tea and just think about it all instead!!!!

What is a 'uniform trim'??? !!!!!

teafortwo · 22/06/2009 00:34

tea gin!!!!!!!!

treedelivery · 22/06/2009 00:38

I was imagining a vest with a sort of glue gingham trim to match the socks, to match the dress, to match the hair clip.....

Would rather imagine a sloe gin fizz. Yum.

Do the register!
Copy and paste my 1st bit and add yours. It would be nice to have a good long list of our brave little souls. And the kids.

teafortwo has one dd will be 3.4 on first day. This is the age all children start school in Paris (where milk and tea live). Butterflies are us - but in a good way !

golgi has son 4.8 on first day. Can do numbers, letters, read some words. Will not pick up pen or pencil or dress himself. Still has a nap after lunch if given half a chance.
