Wondered if hand holding for Sept newbies would be nice?

Just that really. Like an antenatal thread but for parents of children starting primary in Sept.

We have our taster afternoon in a couple of weeks - it all feels so alien. Haven't felt this out of it since I bought my 1st pack of nappies and got the giggles at the checkout!

Name changed justto confuse you all...am pigs.

thegrammerpolice · 19/07/2009 14:30

Ahem, just to not justto.

It is intentionally grammer not grammar in case you missed a certain thread...

Aranea · 19/07/2009 15:40

I like your new name. That was a hilarious thread. Surely a Classic.

teafortwo · 19/07/2009 15:48

I am delighted once I started on one form it all came quite easily. I have filled not one but.... all of the forms in!!!!!!

All I need is Milk's doctor to squiggle underneath the medical section (to say she may do sport - why???) and all is done - hurray!!!

Beer (dh) is making a curry - I think lunch will be served at midnight - therefore I have plenty of time to pop to the florist to choose some plants and start on the sewing now.... it is all school school school stuff here...

puts out bowls of olives and glasses of wine if anyone cares to join me for a sewing fest...

BTW grammer - Nise knew, nayme

treedelivery · 19/07/2009 16:02

Oh good grief. Our form is still down the side of the bed and my flowery tea dress doesn't fit anymore is not ironed.

OP posts:
teafortwo · 19/07/2009 16:22

treedelivery - why are you worried about your flowery dress? Are we already on our own 'school run wardrobe' or was it the outfit you planned to wear for our sewing night?

treedelivery · 19/07/2009 16:43

Sewing night. And school run. And school fete. And all major events really.

Was also pondering a basket....

As playschool runs involved me putting mascara on at the traffic lights I am resolved to be a good mummy come September and be well presented.

Very good tree - I am impressed.

May I suggest rather than just a basket a black shopper bike with a basket on the front of it would be far better, do wear a bonnet for school run purposes too. Furthermore if I were you I would consider beginning to learn a few wholesome children's songs to sing on the way to and from school too! The neighbours will smile, wave and explain to guests with an edge of warmth "There goes Mrs Tree - she is really very famous for her amazing Victoria Sponges at the school fete you know!"

BTW - Have you started sewing yet?.... I am thinking about it....

golgi · 19/07/2009 18:52

I'll be joining in the late night label-sewing sometime towards the end of August.

I don't have to worry about what I look like on school runs, as I won't be doing them - have to run myself to school instead.

Not sure about the "schools not opening" plan - have they considered what working parents will do?

On the other hand....I wouldn't mind a couple of extra weeks off!

(I'm a teacher)

simpson · 20/07/2009 12:30

Another one who will be joining in the late night sewing sessions

Just got DS's PE kit today from school and his welcome pack.

Loads of paperwork

And he doesn't start till 24th Sept!!

What am I going to do with him till then??!!

I will be pulling my hair out he will be bored.

Aranea · 21/07/2009 11:45

I've just seen all the headlines about pressure to keep the schools closed in September cos of flu. Eek. What do you all think about it?

Acinonyx · 21/07/2009 13:30

Double eeek! I've stopped talking about school to dd - I don't want to build up to it too much if schools are going to be closed. But what a nightmare!

golgi · 21/07/2009 16:38

Not really worth it, unless they also ban big gatherings, stop people going to work and confine everyone to the house! If the children aren't at school the big ones will be hanging out in town and the little ones will go to soft play.....

Still fancy an extra couple of weeks off though.

I think in terms of ours starting it won't make much difference - my boy hasn't got much concept of the passing of time beyond "tomorrow" or "the day after".

Aranea · 21/07/2009 20:52

Oh god, mine has. She's like a walking diary. She knows our plans better than I do. She'll be gutted if her start is delayed.

simpson · 21/07/2009 20:55

DS doesn't understand concept of time either.

TBH if his date is delayed its not likely to affect him too much as he isn't starting till end of Sept anyway.

Had chat with him this evening about school etc and he was gutted to realise he couldn't wear his spiderman socks and trainers to school

Acinonyx · 21/07/2009 22:37

Dd was put out that you can't wear jewelery. She's quite the princess

She has a vague idea of time. She knows school is in Sep - whenever that is...

treedelivery · 22/07/2009 18:19

Hi all.

I can't find a blue check summer dress in our town or on the internet. As the next nearest shopping town/city is 45 miles this is a pita!

Sept is usually nice so I'd like to have one or two.

Tree - you could try asking on your local freecycle (if you have one) to see if anyone has one they've grown out of?

teafortwo · 24/07/2009 23:56

Hello all - Today was Milk's last ever day at nursery!!!!

We took the Busy Lizzies I bought at the weekend for the Nishe Laaydies which they seemed to have really liked even though the flowers had got a bit squashed on the peak hour Metro grrr!!!!

Then when I picked Milk up in the evening two of the staff presented me with a book to keep. It contains all of Milk's best art work and photographs with annotaions of all the things she has been doing. They looked through it with me and took lots of time to tell me something about each page. At the end the ladies showing me the book said they were really sad to see Milk leave and asked if we would pop in from time to time to say hello!!! PROUD MUMMY MOMENT!!!!!

Acually both Beer and I were so so proud that we all (Tea, Milk and Beer) went out on the town to celebrate with a pizza and a glass of wine for the adults and for Milk a play with the restaurant cat and two servings of chocolate icecream followed by a carry home!!!

treedelivery · 25/07/2009 10:33

Milk - we had a similar book too! Had tears I can tell you, if only at the pics showing her change form a toddler to a teenager child.

They have put dd2's name down without asking and asked us to pop in too, and a teacher said she would never forget her. More howling from mummy.

Yay you and your lovely day and celebrations. Family is great isn't it.

Freecycle a great idea if I could just log on the the blimming thing. Might go on another jaunt to Leeds....

Glad I'm not the only one to shed tears at the nursery door on the last day!

teafortwo · 25/07/2009 12:09

I must stop using my husband's computer to mumsnet - the fact the 't' key is broken often makes me look a bit daft acually actually!

This morning we looked through the book again. It is so so lovely! There is a picture of a sheep on one page "Nice sheep" I said. "Yes, Louis did it." Milk answered. "My did a a a horse!!!"

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!

teafortwo · 26/07/2009 17:00

I am currently trying to convince Milk's God-Mother that a night of sewing name tags with me and drinking wine is part of her God Mother duties... thing is I strongly suspect she can't sew!!! Ha ha ha!!!!

Is everyone else too busy on holiday right now to think about skool???

Aranea · 26/07/2009 18:25

No, I'm still quietly obsessing, but have nothing to actually say about it as nothing is happening!

How lovely to get such nice books to keep, tree and tea. My dd hasn't finished nursery yet - I'm going to keep her going till mid-August.

treedelivery · 26/07/2009 19:29

Areana - thats a good idea I think.

Still on the school dress hunt here! And thinking about doing a big pre wear wash to get all the shop grime off everything. I'll do it first nice days we get.

DD is talking about her hair cut, which she wants to have before she starts school.
Would try convince dd Godmother to do sewing too, but I am Godmother to her daughter too so feel it could backfire
