All the three schools I've applied they are oversubscribed and we did not get a place. We will still be on the waiting list with a good chance of getting in but good is not enough to relax as everyone thought we'd get a place 100% in the first two considering distance.

I was told that I'be offered a place at closer good school but I haven't been. Apparently I can only either stay on the list or/and apply for an extra one from a list provided. None of those suits either for distance or preference.

I feel like an idiot as I would have indicated that extra school on my original list if I knew I wouldn't be able to add it on later IFKWIM.

What to do now? should I call them and ask beg them to let me choose that school, add the school on the form anyway, add one of those on the list, leave it as it is while praying for a place?

I'm gutted (as many others I know) but I live 3 meters from one school and a 1/4 of a mile from the other one. Who would have foreseen this?

You can probably you tell it is my first child going through this.

Please what's your experience and advice?

thanks

How on earth did you manage to not get a place at a school 3 metres away? You must be next door!

Littlefish · 19/04/2009 19:02

Sorry - that was really unhelpful .

racmac · 19/04/2009 19:18

Can you not appeal?Thats ridiculous if you live that close?

jeanjeannie · 19/04/2009 19:22

Poor you - we've got all this to come. Our local school (150 mtres away) isn't even in our catchement Our one and only catchement school is over a mile away - up a HUGE hill with no bus service and just been classed as one of the worst primaries in the uk!

Could you go to one of the schools you know you could get your DC into while staying on the list for the prefered school and badgering them like mad? Not sure otherwise...home school while staying on the list? Independent, while staying on the list? Or appeal?

Hope someone comes along with some better advice - sorry Gd luck

sorry I had not realised that I had two threads going on simultaneously - the shock of it has made me useless.

anyway, I had a horrible weekend and now I really confused on what to do. Not looking forward to tomorrow as I am sure I am not the only mum who will pester the shool and local authority.

So, can you remain on theor list indefinitely? I must get off the comp and try to think of smthing else.

thank you all.

well def stay on waiting lists. In our area you can go on all the waiting lists of schools you've applied for.

Then, if you arent too late put in an appeal. You may have next to no chance but its worth a shot. Consider all angles, for instance to you have a medical case? or a sn case. It can be worth phoning your local district or even county councillor, sometimes they can give you pointers on the best action plan.

If I were you I would write down the things you are going to do tomorrow. That may stop them going round and round your head. Then try and put it aside for tonight. There is nothing you can do about it on a sunday night!
