Where can I buy childrens books written in French/German

Other than in France/Germany.

We had some exchange kids stay with us last year and they loved reading our kids books in English, esp ones like the Gruffalo, which they knew well in their own language.

I wanted to get some in French and German as my DS's learn these at school, but I am having trouble sourcing them on line.

Does anyone know of any local bookshops specialising in this?

If you are in London, there is a shop in the street just behind Oxford Street. If you go to the Tottenham Court Road Marks and Spencer (not the Marble Arch one) and walk through to the back of the store, you should be just opposite.

Sorry, can't remember name.

Also, most bookshops can order things in for you.

Also Cambridge Heffers used to do a good range of foreign language books.

Thanks for that Cherryblossoms, I am in the NorthWest but there are some books on the Cambridge Heffers site that fit the bill.

I just think it's strange that reading stories plays such a huge part in our kids learning their own language but they are expected to pick up foreign languages without this resource.

YOu can also go onto the Amazon websites for other countries and buy from there. THere's an 'international' link on the UK AMazon website, somewhere that has them all.

Found link for grant and cutler.

Try amazon.de and amazon.fr - they're easy to navigate and you get the same kind of service as you do from the UK site.

The shop mentionned by cherryblossoms is the European Bookshop, they have a website and online shop. HTH

As mentioned above, amazon.de or amazon.fr are the best places imo. I have bought a lot of German childrens' books, dvds and cds there. The shipping cost is Euro 6 irrespective of how much you order.
