Lunchtimes are better at private schools as in those I have experience of the teachers eat with the children and I would imagine this makes them more civilised.

Behaviour.

happywomble, in our state school, the teachers eat with the children.

happywomble · 09/01/2009 21:19

bythesea - sounds as though your DCs school has good lunchtimes! well done to the teachers for eating school dinners!

Habbibu · 09/01/2009 21:20

stillenacht - that's not true of state schools in Scotland, where you can hold them back if you want.

TWINSETinapeartree · 09/01/2009 21:20

I teach in a secondary schoool, we eat with the students in a state of the art canteetn which overlooks a garden and a decked area with lighting for the summer.

Our uniform us always smart and worn correctly.

My lessons are all well behaved, today I have taught class after class of delightful, polite articulate young people who all have a passion for learning.

We dont teach to the test.

ByTheSea · 09/01/2009 21:21

The school dinners are nice and they are an accredited 'healthy school.' They also have cross-country. And FWIW, I like my girls in trousers in the wintertime.

happywomble · 09/01/2009 21:21

no lacrosse (only joking - I was hopeless at lacrosse)

stillenacht · 09/01/2009 21:21

stillenacht · 09/01/2009 21:22

Things that annoy me about state schools (I have so carefully not posted on the other thread, am not going to get drawn in):

SATS and the preparation for them.
Uniforms (having them at all).
Increasing prevalence of "faith" state schools.

Meals are good at our school. Teachers eat with our children, and sometimes we parents go to eat too. It's rather jolly. Surprisingly good food too (local restaurant chef makes meals on site).

llareggub · 09/01/2009 21:25

Where I live the private schools are fairly scruffy. The state schools, on the other hand, are incredibly smart.

Ingles2 · 09/01/2009 21:27

fess up then Twinset...where are you? and can we all come?
