zanzibarmum · 09/01/2009 21:35

Fair question.

What annoys me about state schools are:

  • they sold all their playing fields to the independent schools;
  • they don't control their own curriculum based on the needs of the mix of the children in the school;
  • the good behaviour of the pupils but the inability of the school to get rid of those who don't want to learn;
  • teachers who won't do extra-curricula activities;
  • state schools are teaching to the test but not half as much as independent schools;
noonki · 09/01/2009 21:37

where do you suggest they get rid of the bad behaving children to zanzi?

wheelsonthebus · 09/01/2009 21:37

class sizes and inability of some teachers - not all - to 'inspire' learning

TWINSETinapeartree · 09/01/2009 21:40

My state school is set in beautiful grounds and has playing fields.

My state school has a curriculum dicated by the pupils not the other way around.

As I stated before our behaviour is excellent.

Extra curricular activities, you name it we do it and if we dont we soon will do. From sailing to ballroom dancing.

TWINSETinapeartree · 09/01/2009 21:41

I inspire wheels.

stillenacht · 09/01/2009 21:43

many many uninspiring teachers in private system too

stillenacht · 09/01/2009 21:44

TWINSET - you are lucky to teach in such a wonderful state school as am i...we know many of these things are truisms tho.

wheelsonthebus · 09/01/2009 21:44

twinsset - I am sure you do. wish you were a teacher at our local school.

TWINSETinapeartree · 09/01/2009 21:45

What do you mean by "many of these things are truisms?"

zanzibarmum · 09/01/2009 21:46

Lalalonglegs - children from council estates don't have two heads. You weren't that appalling women on the recent TV documentary - the mother of the white, posh but dim girl on the same street at the black, intelligent poor girl on the council estate.

K999 · 09/01/2009 21:47

Not read all the threats but nothing annoys me about State schools!! I have always been perfectly happy with my own education and my choldrens! Education imo is a privilege and not a right!

zanzibarmum · 09/01/2009 21:49

noonki - Children not able to cope in a class of 30 should be taught in smaller classes with professionals trained to handle the behaviours. In other words, more resources on those children.

stillenacht · 09/01/2009 21:49

class sizes, inflexibilty due to lack of staff/money/government intervention, extra curricular activities (in schools where staff morale is low)

stillenacht · 09/01/2009 21:50

oh i thought lala was being sarky?

TWINSETinapeartree · 09/01/2009 21:51

Do I get to mention my brand new state of the art classroom, our purpose built theatre, frequent trips abroad... i could go on.

TWINSETinapeartree · 09/01/2009 21:51

And apparantly we are only good according to Ofsted so there are lots of beter schools than the one I teach at.

stillenacht · 09/01/2009 21:51

sorry TWINSET - the truisms are above

class sizes etc

TWINSETinapeartree · 09/01/2009 21:52

wheelsonthebus I have smiled all day through my teaching day, I feel blessed to be in my job.
