My dd is now doing stuff she did over a year ago at pre-school (Jolly Phonics). She gets stickers for sharing nicely, something I've expected since at least 3 years. I know she's youngest of 4 and not the youngest in the year, but am I so wrong to expect her to do a bit more work??

I am glad someone else hates it too, I thought it was only me! Nappaddict that is the problem, it is all about boxes that have to be ticked.

The problem is that the schools seem to want to keep the children at the same level. It seems that if, in Reception, you start asking why they can't do more you are made to feel bad because 'at this age they should be playing'. Absolutely but some children are ready for more but I dont think in most schools they are catered for. I think in many cases they rely on a number of children being able to do the things like dressing themselves, sitting nicely, sharing etc so that they can give time to the others. I get the impression as well that once they know who the slightly more mature ones are they expect them just to confirm and almost have a 'well they should have known better' if they are naughty etc.
