Thank god its all over though as so stressed out organising it.

WiliamGrey · 04/07/2008 12:54

Fab !

Got ours tonight !

Hard bloody work, eh?

Well done

notasheep · 04/07/2008 12:58

WG-hope yours goes well today

I dont think some of the other Mums at dds school realise the work involved and if its not perfect they are the first to moan.

One year i didnt get onions for the hotdogs! so it was all my fault....

That is great!

Our school had its summer fair last week and raised £3,700. I think it is the most ever.

hotcrossbunny · 04/07/2008 13:22

Fantastic! May I ask what sort of things you had at your fair, and how big a school are you? Our PTA are off to support the junior school, so we're a new and enthusiatic bunch. Up to now our events have rarely raised more than about 200-300 pounds, and I'm sure we can do better

uptomyeyes · 04/07/2008 13:31

We raised £2300 a couple of weeks ago. Stalls included:

Bottle Tombola - Kids have a mufti day the day before the fair in exchange for a bottle - either alcoholic or not (includes juices, bubble bath etc)

BBQ
strawberries and cream
sweet stall
Pimms satll
Tatoos/face painting/nail polishing/hair spraying
Craft stall depending on theme of fair - this year was Olympic - so we printed off lots of medals for colouring in etc...
bouncy castles x2 big kids and little kids
Splat the rat
Guess the number of sweets
Shoot goals past the goalkeeper.
Money crown - every child is sent home with an identical envelope, parents are asked to put at least 20p in it and return it to school. The envelopes are then stapled to a big cardboard crown. Children buy an envelope off the crown and hope to make more than 20p.
Shoot goals
Coconut shy
Plant sale
Cake sale

use parents that have a special skill - this year we had a hairdresser french plaiting hair for £1. And a family that own an indian resteraunt sold samosas/bhajis etc

Scolastic or Usbourne book stall. You get commission.

uptomyeyes · 04/07/2008 13:32

180 children at the school

NickiSue · 04/07/2008 13:33

Thats fantastic! Well done you!!!

uptomyeyes · 04/07/2008 13:33

Oh and don't forget the estate Agent Sponsership. If we get thirty parents willing to have an estate agency board up outside their house then a local estate agency prints of advertising boards to go ont he For Sale Board and gives the school £300.

It doesn't say For SAle of course it advertises your fete in place of the For Sale bit.

I like the idea of the money crown. How much do you charge for the envelopes for the children to buy?

uptomyeyes · 04/07/2008 14:44

Oh sorry...the children pay 20p on the basis that they will either get 20p back or anything above that - sometimes 50p or £1. In reality no parent puts in 20p so all the kids make a profit and all it costs the PTA is the price of the little envelopes.

itati · 04/07/2008 17:51

I took the idea to school and gave it to my DD's TA but I think she thought I had lost ther plot when I said I had heard an idea for fundraising.

uptomyeyes · 04/07/2008 18:46

Why? Do you have a PTA that could take up the idea?

Does any fundraising take place at school?

itati · 04/07/2008 19:07

The school is always doing things to raise money.

itati · 04/07/2008 19:08

Just got the newsletter and we have raised £10,182 this year.

uptomyeyes · 04/07/2008 21:21

Wonder why the TA reacted like that then.

notasheep · 04/07/2008 23:41

you did well too.I am particularly pleased as the school is in deprived area and 140 pupils

amnotwingingbut · 04/07/2008 23:48

not had ours yet, but just wanted to say well done to all of you.

Gobbledigook · 04/07/2008 23:52

YOu did well! It depends on the size of the school, the area it's in etc I suppose. We make around £7,000 at ours (not for a couple of weeks yet). Our aim this year is to raise £15K and we are almost there.

notasheep · 04/07/2008 23:54

gg-is that 15K at a summer fete really?

OP posts:
lilolilmanchester · 04/07/2008 23:55

fantastic notasheep, well done.

Gobbledigook · 04/07/2008 23:56

No £15K over the year - we get about 7K at teh fete though.

lilolilmanchester · 04/07/2008 23:57

(gobbledigook, well done to your school too, but it does sound a little like you are belittling notasheep's efforts. Have seen enough of your posts to know you wouldn't do that, but could be read a bit like that TBH)

Gobbledigook · 05/07/2008 00:02

Oh God, not at all - that's why I said it depends on the school - ours is large (Over 500 kids) and most of the parents are, er, well heeled so we fleece them for all we can

No, I did not mean to belittle her at all - sorry if it came across that way - am not really thinking as listening to music at the same time and have literally just finished work so head not really in the game so to speak
