Thank god its all over though as so stressed out organising it.

Its time for me to stand down as Chairperson now (have organised four fetes so far!)

How depressing to think that a PTA can make more in a year than my partner earns!
What a deprived area i must be in

Gobbledigook, I did say that I knew that wasn't what you meant, but it is a little how you came across..... am on similar PTA to yours and easy to forget how easily we come by our money until you hear different stories. And just wait until you get into secondary PTAs, a completely different situation, regardless of where you live.

Gobbledigook · 05/07/2008 00:10

I will be well retired from PTAs by then.

Sorry notasheep - I see it was very insensitive.

By the way, do you know of anyone at your school that works for Barclays because they do money matching which is how we bolster ours - get the person who works for Barclays to work on your most lucrative stall and Barclays match what you make.

lilolilmanchester · 05/07/2008 00:12

(plus several other banks/building societies for that matter, easy money)

Gobbledigook · 05/07/2008 00:14

Oh, and by the way, I'm sure notasheep and her PTA don't put any less effort into their work so our funds are simply a reflection of the size and location of the school, not because we are 'better' at raising money.

notasheep · 05/07/2008 00:21

gdg-thankyou for your support.

We dont have any Boden Mums in school

Notasheep - check out the Awards for All part of the Big Lottery website. Your PTA could apply for a grant specifically for a certain project eg playground equipment, mosaic project or a nature garden if you have the space. If you live in a "deprived" area - big it up, if you have higher than national average statements children or kids on free meals the same applies.

I've applied for a couple of these for work (I work for a charity), for school and for my sons SN ice hockey team...and been successful with all applications. They take a bit of work but you can raise up to £10 000 for a specific project and can reapply every two years. You get a result within 6 weeks of applying.

notasheep · 05/07/2008 19:27

Thankyou for that-i am sure would fit the criteria.Do you think i should wait and put application in at beginning of new school year in September?

OP posts:
uptomyeyes · 05/07/2008 20:42

The scheme is open all year round so it doesn't matter when you submit your application but you will need to talk to your head teacher about what the school is interested in developing and there are priority areas that your proposal would have to be within eg.Young peoples health and fitness, art projects, environmental projects and so on.
Have a look at the website and do not be put off by the form. There are advisors at the lottery fund whose job it is to advise you on how to make your application.
Our school has done a mosaic project and I'm hoping to do a wildlife garden on a bit of unused land next. At work we developed a handbook for women in prison and for the ice hockey club we bought protective equipment. SO you can see how diverse the possible requests can be.

notasheep · 05/07/2008 20:45

New sports kit and equipment would be lovely

I'm sure that would be a great ask for the Awards for All fund.

Good Luck with it

Also possibles (less work but probably smaller grants) are Local Rotary Club/Round Table.

MrsWeasley · 05/07/2008 20:52

Well done Notasheep.

taipo · 05/07/2008 20:52

Well done, notasheep.

It is hard work isn't it? You deserve a break from it now

notasheep · 05/07/2008 20:56

Two years as Chairperson was long enough!

mckenzie · 05/07/2008 21:04

well done notasheep and everyone else involved in the pTA and Fete committee. I ran and sponsored my own stall this year and when i think of the work I put in to organise just one stall and yet the PTA Fete committee organise the whole day!! Hats off to all of you

notasheep · 06/07/2008 09:03

Next event is the School BBQ in less that 2 weeks with live band and bouncy castle.

So more stress with will it wont it rain!

OP posts:
taipo · 06/07/2008 09:58

Fingers crossed for you it won't rain!

Do you get enough support from parents and staff? I was PTA chair for 2 years at dd's last school and it was always a struggle to get people to help out.

christywhisty · 06/07/2008 14:06

We had a our fete yesterday, which was a big success after a change of PTA. Last lot got very cliquey.

What I couldn't believe how much signed football shirts raised at silent auction.
We had 2 Arsenal and 2 Spurs. The Arsenal shirts raised about £350 each and the Spurs shirts were £200 each. Not a very wealthy area, but they are our two local teams.
It is always worth trying to find a parent that works for one of the banks. I think it is barclays as they have a scheme for their staff where they will match moneys raised for charity.

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 06/07/2008 14:17

We had ours yesterday. Made money, (shan't say how much) Waves to GDG.

The biggest hit...........????

Maggot racing, we didn't raise a lot of money from it, but the children loved it.

notasheep · 06/07/2008 15:22

taipo-i never get enough help from parents or teachers but at least they actually come to the events

OP posts:
taipo · 06/07/2008 15:40

tis a start

I found it quite disheartening. Particularly that the staff were so reluctant to help out. Some did obviously but it was always the same ones and often those that had the least time to spare.

I love the sound of maggot racing, Bree.

Gobbledigook · 06/07/2008 17:06

we've got ours next Sunday. If the weather holds up I think the go-karts will be a hit. The kids loved them last year but they had to keep closing it because the rain was torrential - fingers crossed for better weather next week!

Gobbledigook · 06/07/2008 17:08

Christy - we have a Man Utd signed football (has Ronaldo and Rooney on it!) and we also have a Lexus RX400 Hybrid for a weekend!! One the mums is brilliant at blagging stuff so we get fabbo stuff for our auction. Dying to see what these make on the day!

Your £350/200 is fabbo!

notasheep · 06/07/2008 18:39

Gosh how depressing, you are in a completely different league from our school(no pun intended). One of our main raffle prizes was a bottle of Champagne

OP posts:
taipo · 06/07/2008 19:14

I think dd's old school was more like yours notasheep. There was always a bottle of champagne as a raffle prize

It was a big school but in a deprived area and we counted ourselves lucky to raise more than a thousand for the summer fair.
