Just found out DS's reception teacher (to be) is newly qualified and this is her first job after qualifying!

TBH I thought I'd be really pissed off but I think it might be a good thing. I'm hoping she'll be really keen and as she's young, the children will like her

She visited pre-school yesterday (not part of school) and DS liked her, said she seemed kind. The pre-school teachers said they liked her, the leader (a blunt Yorkshirewoman!) was impressed by the way she took their observations on board and wasn't all "I'm a teacher" about things.

Both my youngest dds have had NQTs this year, and they have been great, much better than last years teachers, who have been there forever, dont like change maybe even a little bit too laid back, at our school NQTs are on a temporary years contract and they normally work really hard to ensure the job is offered to them at the end of first year.

Feenie, to be fair, I did correct myself straight away.

My dd had a fantastic NQT in Y2! Full of energy and great ideas and seemed to 'get' my dd straight away

ds1, who has sn and behavioural issues, has nbeen much better off with his nqt this last year, and far happier. partly because said nqt is more sn savvy, but also keener and positive

Yep, sorry myredcardigan - like I said, we are annoying!

She came today for a home visit and I liked her (apart from teh fact that she turned up 20 minutes early and I was in the shower) so fingers crossed

MamaG we have had two excellent teachers start as NQTs both pretty young at our school in the last 2 yrs.

Both have done really well and the kids have loved them. They don't have experience of course, but they have lots of good ideas and up to date knowledge.

Plus as it happens they are both great teachers! I am sure yr DS's will be too.

Twig it doesn't follow that FS2 teachers are new actually - it's not like you start there and work up. I also know and have known plenty of FS2 teachers with years of experience.
