Not the one you want to send your child to, just the nearest one to your house?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

2.2 miles.
About 35 minutes walk. Quite a hilly walk.

Whoops75 · 03/10/2026 22:43

15 minute drive.

Smallestshadow · 03/10/2026 22:43

About half a mile.

champagneplanet · 03/10/2026 22:44

0.3 miles, a 10 min walk

Summer26woohoo · 03/10/2026 22:45

2.3 miles, 6 min drive. Kids have a free school bus though which is great.

mynameiscalypso · 03/10/2026 22:45

0.2 miles. But we have 12 within a mile of where we live according to Google maps, a mix of state and private.

PinkCatCushion · 03/10/2026 22:46

8 miles.
School bus takes 40 minutes as we are at the beginning of the route which goes via a few other hamlets. If I drive directly it takes about 15 minutes. The country lanes are not suitable for walking.

spritzwiththat · 03/10/2026 22:48

8 miles.

Phineyj · 03/10/2026 22:48

1.5 miles, but due to population density and banding tests, there was little chance of getting in. So DC goes to one 7 miles away. Go figure!

drspouse · 03/10/2026 22:50

0.3 miles.
Neither of my DCs go there!

PrincessOfPreschool · 03/10/2026 22:50

We have 2 about 10 mins walk away (DS went to one of them, other DC went to the other). Another about 25 mins walk. A couple more 30 mins on bus or 10 min drive.

Dithercats · 03/10/2026 22:52

4 miles. 1hr 30 mins walk, or 20 mins free school bus. I can drive it in 10 mins.

nomorecheese · 03/10/2026 23:06

0.9 miles

Creepybookworm · 03/10/2026 23:12

1.2 miles. That is where my children went. There are also ones 1.5 and 1.6 miles away.

Ikelels · 03/10/2026 23:13

0.45 miles, another 2 within 0.7 miles, and another 2 within 0.8 miles.

PhysicsBowlChampion · 03/10/2026 23:14

5 mins but my DC goes to one which is an hour’s commute.

DiscombobulatedHedgehog · 03/10/2026 23:15

Twenty miles away.

ThingsgetbetterwithalittlebitofRazzmatazz · 03/10/2026 23:23

0.7 miles away if walking, the driving route is 1.5 miles.

Ilovewillow · 03/10/2026 23:23

About 2 miles, my daughter went to one 15 miles away and my sons is 8 miles away!

Linnet · 03/10/2026 23:29

There are two secondary schools a 10 minute walk from my house. Both of them are our catchment schools, we just had to decide which one of them to send our kids to and that’s where they went.

LumpkinPumpkin · 03/10/2026 23:31

Closest is 6.7km but it’s a catholic school
Second closest, and closest non-religious school is 6.8km away (in a different direction to the catholic school)
Catchment school for the village is is 7.4km away
A few kids in the village go to one 16km away

None are walkable as you’d have to do country lanes and busy NSL roads without pavements. I wouldn’t want an 11/12 year old cycling them alone at rush hour either. There isn’t a bus route through the village so parents usually drop off at bus stops about 2km away. I’m a bit mean and will probably encourage DD to cycle/walk to the bus stops when she goes to secondary! (DS will be at specialist so taxi likely)

RancidRuby · 03/10/2026 23:33

Girls only 1.3 miles, boys only 1.5 miles, catholic school 2 miles, co ed high school 3 miles.

CloudyWithAChanceOfCustard · 03/10/2026 23:35

5.1 miles…I just googled. The next nearest is 8.4 miles. I live in a very rural Lincolnshire village.

horseplay12 · 03/10/2026 23:37

Why? 3 miles to our closest secondary school, there is another 4 miles away and then one more about 7 miles. How relevant is that to you though?
we could live with 25 amazing schools in a 20 minute walk but how does that affect you?

MrsMoastyToasty · 03/10/2026 23:39

The boundary fence at the bottom of our back garden is shared with nearest secondary school.
I worked there briefly and my DS went there too and it took us 3 minutes to walk around out the front door, out of our street into the street where school gates are. (We can't get out via the back garden).
