A 10 min walk to primary school.

A 25 min bus to secondary.

Autumnfruit · 03/10/2026 16:03

Primary- 4 min drive. It’s probably about 2 miles.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 03/10/2026 16:13

Primary 5 mins cycle, 10 min walk

xyzandabc · 03/10/2026 16:16

Primary - 10 or 25 mins walk
Secondary - 1hr walk and bus
Secondary - 4 minute walk
Secondary - 40 mins walk or 15 mins cycle

Different children, different schools, different houses.

Why do you want to know?

viche · 03/10/2026 16:17

Primary - 2 minute walk.
Secondary - 10 minutes walk.

r0ck · 03/10/2026 16:18

Primary- 5 min walk
Secondary- 45 min walk/ 20 min bus/ 5 min car

KnickerlessFlannel · 03/10/2026 16:18

I do a round trip - leave home, 20 mins to dd1's private secondary (so very much not our closest school) and then a further 20 mins on to dd2's primary school - hard to explain but it's a sort of triangle, with my work place being very close to the primary school.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 03/10/2026 16:20

10 minutes in car when dc were at local state school. When DD2 went to a prep school it was 30 mins due to traffic! However - absolutely terrific school and we practiced spellings and tables in the car. 20 mins max for me to get home.

AgnesMcDoo · 03/10/2026 16:20

My kids got the bus to primary and then walk to secondary.

so no commute for me

Twokittenchaos · 03/10/2026 16:25

Primary school, 3 minute walk. Secondary will be approx 20 min bus + walk, or 10 min drive but kids are very rarely driven to school round here and unless DD wanted to get there extremely early when her dad leaves for work, it’s likely to be the bus.

MiddleAgedDread · 03/10/2026 16:27

For catchment schools it’s a mile to our primary and
secondary school (a smidge under to the primary). As quick to walk as it is to drive.

CaptainCalm · 03/10/2026 16:28

Primary - 45 min drive in morning traffic
Secondary - 1hr 15 but they board

Puhpuhpuhpuh · 03/10/2026 16:30

Five-minute walk to primary.
25 minutes to secondary school - five-minute walk, tube, bus, five-minute walk.

Kitchenbattle · 03/10/2026 16:32

We have a primary school 200m away (practically next door) but I bring my DS to a different school which is a 12 minute drive away 5.9 KM no traffic at all because it’s a rural School.

secondary school is 2.3km so about a 25min walk- however I mostly drop DD as I’m in the car dropping DS to school anyway

BobbleBear · 03/10/2026 16:34

We live about 5 miles from the nearest secondary school and DS gets a free school bus. It picks him up from the end of our drive.

The Primary school was the village school and we lived next door to it.

I live in Ireland and moved here specifically for the better school provision.

ParksidePen · 03/10/2026 16:48

Primary is a 14 minute walk. We actually live a hundred metres from our catchment school but wanted the one further away. Secondary school will be about a mile uphill.

Jennarey · 03/10/2026 16:55

Primary - 5 min walk
Secondary - 30 min direct tube (dcs travel alone)

Both door to door, and specifically moved to be near good schools.

Classicallover · 03/10/2026 18:41

State primary was 5 mins walk, 3 mins if one ran.

Did state till 8, so moved to a prep school in Y3, 20 mins drive , 15 best , 25 worst ( one way) .....Yes, I know.

Posywosey · 03/10/2026 18:43

Primary - 10 min walk. If the entrance was on a different place on the grounds, then it would be a 3 min walk...

Not secondary yet, but the most likely one is 10 mins walk in the opposite direction.

Mamamia35 · 03/10/2026 18:44

Primary - 10 min walk
Secondary - 6 min walk

Busybookworm · 03/10/2026 22:42

Primary was 3 minutes’ walk; secondary is 15 minutes’ walk.

makemineadecaf · 04/10/2026 07:10

Primary (state) - 4 minute drive, 2 miles.
Secondary (private) - 10 minute drive, 3.5 miles

ThatLivelyCat · 11/10/2026 17:08

@CaptainCalm how old is your child? Do they cope ok with the long journey before and after school? Thank you

CaptainCalm · 11/10/2026 17:46

@ThatLivelyCat My children have done it since they were 4yrs old (well, since newborn for the youngest) and yes it’s totally fine. They don’t know much different and lots of families we know have similar commutes. Getting out of the house is difficult with young children irrespective of how you travel, that’s the hard bit, the commute itself isn’t as hard as the bit before.

On the way home it varies from 25-45mins depending on traffic. The youngest ones would often have a nap on the way home. When they’re older we have nice chats about their day.

In the morning you get used to it and we’d prioritise leaving early for better traffic and do reading or homework in the car when we arrived.

RedFatball · 11/10/2026 18:25

Primary was 200m away. Secondary is 8 miles, they are on a school bus for that, takes about 40min with all the stops and country roads
