Primary school uniform advice: tights or leggings with a pinafore?

I have a list of uniform options for my child's primary school but I didn't grow up in the UK and I'm not sure what goes with what. She loves dresses so I was going to get pinafores with polo shirts. Should she wear leggings or tights with a pinafore? Or is either fine?

Tights is usual but either is fine.

Tights are the norm. Or just socks, depending on weather.

But I doubt leggings would be an issue unless you’re at a school that is particularly uptight about uniform.

Tights or socks if it’s warm enough

It was ankle socks or tights in cooler weather. Don’t know anyone who wore leggings - that wasn’t part of the uniform.

I think leggings would be too bulky

I don't think our primary school allows leggings, but DD wears tights when it's cold or socks with cycling shorts underneath.

Socks, often knee high are common here for younger ones, then tights when it gets colder (grey or black woolly ones)

Tights, or knee high socks with pinafores. I loved the pinafore dresses when DD started school. She won't wear them now, just skirts.

She also broke my heart when she moved from red tights to grey ones :D

Check their uniform policy, as some don't allow leggings. Under a pinafore, most opt for socks or tights, depending on the weather.

Does she have to change for PE or do they go in their kit on those days? If she needs to change, just be mindful that some children find tights really tricky at age 4. Either practice them lots, until she's confident and independent with them, or opt for trousers or long socks on PE days. The staff will help them get changed if they're truly stuck, but they'll always expect them to try first and they may have to wait as lots of children may need help at the same time. This can be frustrating for some children who are use to adults dressing them at home. I would advise against tights on a PE day, until she can do them herself.

Tights or socks is the "norm" but quite a few wear leggings. IMO leggings are comfier, warmer and easier to get on and off!

Is it a private school? If yes then tights in winter and socks in summer. If it’s not then they probably won’t care provided the leggings look smart

Tights in winter, ankle socks in the summer. I always wore a proper shirt but I knew children who wore polos.

DD always hated tights but leggings were too bulky so we came across footless tights. They are far comfier with none of the issues of them falling down and fit just like leggings but without the bulk. We found them in Tesco, Boden and M&S.

Mine prefers leggings, no baggy crotch! School are relaxed about uniform though
