Advice on family-friendly areas and primary schools near Ulverston

Hi everyone,
We’re planning to relocate from Southampton to the Ulverston/Cumbria area this July as I’ll be starting a new job with BAE Systems. We have 6-year-old twins who will be starting Year 2, and we’d really appreciate some local advice.
Our main priorities are:

  • Safe and family-friendly areas
  • Good primary schools
  • A nice community for young children
  • Reasonable commute to BAE
We’re planning to rent initially for some time before deciding where to buy a house, so we’d love recommendations on areas that are good for families and schools. We’re also a bit unsure how school admissions work when moving mid-year, so any experiences or advice would be hugely helpful. Which areas/villages would you recommend around Ulverston? And how difficult is it usually to get a place in a good primary school in the area? Thanks so much in advance 🙂

Not really sure about admissions, I think you’d have to ring schools to find out what vacancies they have.
We live in Allithwaite, a village just outside the town of Grange over Sands which is about 30 mins from Ulveston.
My granddaughter goes to the local school there which is very popular. Quite a few of the parents there work at BAE as do people in the village.
our village is lovely with a community centre, a lovely play area next to the school and an excellent village shop.
Grange has a primary school too as does Cartmel.
