Any other scottish MNers whose DCs are starting P1 in Aug? Are they starting full time?

New "regime" in the highlands is that there is no "slow start" rom this Aug - They will be in school from 9.15am to 3.15pm.

Just wondered if this is happening elsewhere in Scotland and what others think of this....

expat they sound fab and your dd sounds like a dream ours are very good too, when Iw as in hosp for a week with dd2 they kept dd1 full time without batting an eyelid and insisted on no peyment which was very good of them

the council one is lovely too but only does 2.5hr morning or afternoon sessions during term time which doesn't help us workwise

M&S in braehead has EVERYTHING in it
last time I nipped into an M&S foodhall for an onion I ended up spending £18 was most expensive onion in world!!

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 23:32

i'm bringing the cool bags with us when we go across next time, because i'm bringing back some M&S . . .erm . . . ready meals and some other good nosh.

when we went into braehead last, though, it was to spend the DD's Xmas money so it was Gap Kids and Clarks and other boring stuff like that.

dizzydixies · 06/06/2008 23:33

M&S is at the opposite end to Sainsburys and the foodhall is conveniently located on ground floor so you can just wander in and grab all you can lol

prettybird · 06/06/2008 23:37

The M& S in Braehead is great - bigger than the Sauchiehall Street where I get most of ds' school clothes (trousers/plimsolls - get the ploshirts/sweatshirts from the school!).

However, the M&S in Silverburn is not so good.

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 23:45

i'm even taking a coolbag with me to Paisley next week so i can grab a very goodies after my scan.

dizzydixies · 06/06/2008 23:46

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 23:48

My ds is starting p1 in August and we had a letter saying they are to start full time, but here the wee ones go home at 2.30 until p4, leaving p4-p7 in till 3.15. Does nobody else do this?

dizzydixies · 09/06/2008 20:13

not with us puddleduck

9-12 for first few wks then 9-3 after

prettybird · 10/06/2008 09:23

Not in my epxericne. After the first few weeks, all kids are 9.00-3.15.

The council are about to cause even more chaos here (there has a been a long saga over school closures with the council employing a slash & burn policy). According to the local paper, the council has applied for permission for school to have an extra 6 days summer holiday - 3 added at the start and 3 added at the end. Ds2 is meant to be starting P1 on 20 August and now this - no communication at all from the council - they will let parents know in due course . We happen to be ok this time round as I'm on mat leave for the start of the hols though it could scupper my well laid plans for going back to work - I'm meant to be starting back the week ds2 goes full days as they have 3 weeks of half days first - if they start back late, on the following Monday rather than the Wednesday as planned it may mean he's still doing half days when I go back

I am in the Highlands and I only found this out for sure yesterday the school still haven't told us I heard a rumour and asked.

I am worried about dd, she is more than ready for school, but she is knackered at the end of the week with just nursery 5 1/2 hours a day of school is going to be a nightmare.
I have no problem taking her home for lunch to give her a break but I am worried I am going to then have a tired little girl that doesn't want to go back in the afternoon.

Flier · 10/06/2008 12:49

Ineedacleaner thats part of the reason why I've decided to put ds for school lunches right from the start, in the long run it may be easier on him, I know alot of his classmated will also be staying for lunches.
Where abouts are you? We are just north of Inverness.

I am 20 miles North of Inverness. How far north are you?
That is my concern about taking her home I am torn because I know how tired she gets and how tired she will be so one part of me would like to give her the rest at home and one part would like to just keep her in school for the day.

Flier · 10/06/2008 14:02

about 14 miles north. I'm dreading how tired ds will be, but there's not alot we can do about it....

Expat if you are in Paisley and your are driving up from Gourock, you could do Tesco Extra at the Port (Greenock also has clothes upstairs), then Asda Linwood, there is also a Matalan there (and Pizza Hut etc)and there is an Adams in Paisley as well (Adams polo shirts wash well, if you can't get to Adams, I think TU in Sainsbury is the same brand). Also M&S are doing free delivery on orders over £30 (I can never get all the sizes in one shop and Adams on orders over £35. Asda used to do 2 skirts for £7, M&S cardigans wash best and I have found M&S shoes great wearing. HTH. Also if you see any pack lunch boxes going on special buy them as a lunch box and bottle costs over £10 . See all the useless facts you find out by the time they are in P3.

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 10/06/2008 16:52

I am curious now where you are now fler lol.
My mind is whirring thinking about the places that close by.

Flier · 10/06/2008 17:09

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 10/06/2008 17:35

I don't mind throwing caution to the wind lol, I stay in Alness.

Flier · 10/06/2008 17:38

I thought you were maybe there lol. Are you born & bred or an incomer? I'm an incomer

OP posts:
IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 10/06/2008 23:42

I am an incomer as well but DH is born and bred poor guy lol.
I get rediculously excited when I find someone that stays clos by sad case me.

expatinscotland · 10/06/2008 23:50

Oooo, where is the Adams in Paisley?

I'm there on Friday for that baby's abnormality scan.

I usually just go from the train station to the buses to get to RAH, passing through the shopping area.

expatinscotland · 10/06/2008 23:51

Sweatshirts are ordered up.

Flier · 11/06/2008 07:47

adams.co.uk/shop/store_locator.html

Adams is in moss street, which is just behind the train station at gilmour street map
