Any other scottish MNers whose DCs are starting P1 in Aug? Are they starting full time?

New "regime" in the highlands is that there is no "slow start" rom this Aug - They will be in school from 9.15am to 3.15pm.

Just wondered if this is happening elsewhere in Scotland and what others think of this....

I'm only thinking on getting the 3 sweatshirts, Flier, because it can be VERY cold here.

This is a rural area and the school sits atop a hill that is a bit exposed.

dizzydixies · 06/06/2008 22:30

oh lord, we have to buy nursery teachers presents?!?

Flier · 06/06/2008 22:31

asda linwood is good, but asda govan is really good, especially clothes dept.

there is a tesco down the back of RossHall which has a MASSIVE selection of clothes

aGalChangedHerName · 06/06/2008 22:33

Don't know if dd is big or small for her age Expat but Asda do trews from 3-4 up in pull on style.

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 22:35

There are only two in DD1's nursery, dizzy.

So I'm doing a wee picnic totebag sort of thingy.

There's a wifey here what sells these lovely tie-dyed totes.

I'm going to get each one with a couple of these, some Skin So Soft spray for the midgies, these, wee bottles of wine and bubbly from M&S and some other nice picnic nibbles.

dizzydixies · 06/06/2008 22:35

I've had to get aged 6 for dd and she's not 5 till next month - from debenhams and Next though as was swapping clothes MIL bought for them into something more useful

ASDA Govan is our closest one! Ace.

DD1 wears a 5-6 year old trouser because her legs are long. So it's looking like an ASDA trip for us.

Might swing by Sainsbury's Braehead as well since it's en route .

dizzydixies · 06/06/2008 22:38

I normally hand in a tin of something at christmas etc but wondered if they maybe get about 10 of them?!?

where in govan is the asda? is it down next to the retail park? I normally nip into sainsburys for a nosey at their clothes as we don't have one up here

dizzydixies · 06/06/2008 22:39

lol expat x post re sainsburys!!!

Flier · 06/06/2008 22:40

the M&S at braehead is a really well stocked one (well, in comparison to the inverness one it is!)

asda have some really classy gear mixed in with some gems lol

can't think where Toys R Us is either - opposite Ikea where B&Q used to be or am I completely wrong?

dizzydixies · 06/06/2008 22:46

expat thats a lovely idea for their pressies, I think am quivering as its a private nursery that costs a farking fortune and there are 5 teachers in the pre school room - think a box of chocs will do rightly

The probelm with buying shoes at the beginning of the holidays is "what happpens if they have a (foot) growth spurt beteen now and the new term?"

We've never found getting shoes in the right size a problem even a week or so before term starts (maybe not exactly the style you want), but finding plimsolls can be a challenge It might be worth buying some now in ds/dd's current size and the next size up and then taking the sammler size back if dd's/ds' feet gorw inbetween times.

Re the school clothes, I think we got two of each (polo shirt and sweat shirt) in P1 - but got more the following year (even though he could still fit into the stuff we ofr P1) as sometimes we had to do a wash mid-week espcially to get fresh clothes. Bt our school (embroidered) bradned stiff is very reasonable: £6 for the polo shirts and £7.50 for the sweat shirts/cardigans. And the school emphasises that an accpetable alternative is non-logo-ed - but-the-right-colour eqivalents from the local Asda (Govna yet again! ).

I owuld suggest you need a minimum of 4 polo shirts (if you are prepared to wash midweek if necessary) and 6 sweat shirts/cardigans. It s possible to operate with two of each - we did for a year - but you need to be prepared to do a (hand)wash midweek if necessary.

prettybird · 06/06/2008 23:03

We got a whole load of bunches fo roses for the staff at ds' nursery - a wee bit different

dizzydixies · 06/06/2008 23:09

prettybird thats a lovely idea too

prettybird · 06/06/2008 23:13

...I had to cycle home from work the day before with about 10 bunches of roses hanging off my handlebars!

dizzydixies · 06/06/2008 23:14

lol, am sure you were quite the sight

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 23:24

k, that's the ASDA DH saw today. there's a Pizza Hut near it. yippee!1 how tragic am i?

aye, see, DD1's just as the local nursery and it's not so big.

they took her on in late october without batting an eyelid after we moved her.

the poor bairn was pining for her 'Embra' as she calls her native city and they were so kind they won her over.

she now says she loves to stay in 'gyll' as she calls it.

she has dyspraxia and other needs and they've been so accommodating and very cooperative with DD1's therapists, so i want to get them something really nice.

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 23:27

I know the M&S has a foodhall in Braehead because our neighbours are weegies and they go and stock up there.

But there's a clothes shop in there as well?

We've only been in Braehead the once and it was because we didn't go far enough East on the motorway to see the IKEA signs, but we saw the mall!
