Any other scottish MNers whose DCs are starting P1 in Aug? Are they starting full time?

New "regime" in the highlands is that there is no "slow start" rom this Aug - They will be in school from 9.15am to 3.15pm.

Just wondered if this is happening elsewhere in Scotland and what others think of this....

Jeez just worked out roughly our school has 480 pupils in all

Have a crap playground too!!

expatinscotland · 05/06/2008 18:40

there is only one secondary school, a grammar school, around here for so many miles that some children have to board.

DH is pals with a teacher there.

he says the kids tend to hang round the ones they went to primary school with.

hmm, i don't know. i guess there's no way to prevent that.

but the grammar school has about 1000 pupils in total, but again, many of them come in from much, much smaller primary schools.

Is that 'cos they are trying to get the class size down Aimsmum? Or is your school roll growing?

Ds' school is at maximum capacity - 10 classes. We were at risk of losing the library this year as it technically uses up a classroom, but fortuntately the council has let the school go one over the maximum for a composite P1/2 class (ie 26 instead of 25), so that all the placing requests could be accommodated.

Glad to hear the induction went well. Our new neighbour's wee boy also went for his induction day at ds' school this afternoon. Ds wasn't there as it was his school outing - which was probably just as well, as he is still having difficulty adjusting to having to share our garden with another wee boy after many years of having a free run - and now he also has to "share" his primary school!

If your school has sweatshirts and polo shirts with teh school's name on them as part of their uniform, how many did you order of each?

I'm at a loss here and the sweatshirts are flippin' 11.50 each!

I'm using £50 DD1 got as birthday morning to buy these, but more sweatshirts or more polo tops?

Flier · 06/06/2008 22:14

i bought the sweatshirts with the school badge on, bu have bought plain polo shirts from M&S, £3 for 3! can't get better than that, although I may buy just one polo shirt with school badge on.

and i ordered 2 sweatshirts.

Expat i only bought 2 of each. I tend to let them wear the polo shirt for 2 days and the sweatshirt the same as long as they were clean.

They are easy enough to wash and dry fairly quick.

Oh and after P1 i bought Asda polo shirts and 2 school logo sweatshirts. That sounds expensive. I am sure our school is £8 for a polo shirt and £10 for a sweatshirt.

yelnats · 06/06/2008 22:18

Im sure in Ayrshire last year they weren't long before they were full time - I think September weekend as opposed to the usual October week.

thanks, flier.

i think the sweatshirts will get a lot of use here.

so i think i'll go with three of those and a couple of polos, which are cheaper.

i need to find trousers and skirts with elasticated waists as DD1 has dyspraxia.

expatinscotland · 06/06/2008 22:21

Thanks, folks.

I have to go to Paisley next week so I'll check out M&S for some polos.

Hope someone has the trousers and skirts with the elasticated waists.

Grrr.

Do they just wear normal shoes?

dizzydixies · 06/06/2008 22:24

expat ours are meant to be £9.50 - I won't be getting them

have already got her a couple of wee checked dresses and tescos have some nice cardis for £4!

had a meeting today for dd1 starting in aug, she'll be on 09.00-12.00 for first 2 weeks then 09.00-15.00 after that

she's also in a composite with 24 kids, 11 of whom are P1 and 13 P2

am not really that bothered as she is in with 3 of her wee friends and they have a smaller class than the all P1 and seem to have the more popular choice of teacher

aGalChangedHerName · 06/06/2008 22:24

Asda do black or blue pull on trousers. Not sure about skirts tho.

DD1's class is composite, too, but with P1, P2, P3 - still only now 19 pupils in total there.

Flier · 06/06/2008 22:26

I was told today that M&S do a 3for2 just at the start of the summer hols, so may be worth waiting for that. Adams may do elasticated waists.
You've got me wondering now if I should have bought an extra sweatshirt

Thanks, agalch.

DH went into Glasgow today for work and found out where the nearest ASDA is to us.

Need to head into civilisation soon, anyhow, as I really want to go all out on the gifts for DD1's nursery teachers who have been so fabulous.
