I wasn;t going to, and then when DS2 had his nurses check-in in reception I went along so I could explain better about his bowel condition etc.
anyhoo....
she weighs and measures him and then lauched into a huge big rant about how his centiles don't match and that he is slightly heavier than his hieght etc......I should be feeding him this, that and the rest etc....
I asked her what planet she was on......DS2 was a normal weight at birth and then proceeded to drop of the centiles completely.....from a 7.15lb baby at birth he was just 16lb on his 1st b/day, and he had had wieght putting on issues since, and with his allergies and bowel probs, he was still small, yet had actually just put on wieght, for which I was thrilled!!!!
how dare she imply that I was doing it wrong....in fact....the food she said to feed him was the very food he is allergic too!! (lots of dairy to ensure calcium etc, but low fat to stop weight gain!) If he eats dairy, he will be very very ill.......altho it would 'cure' the wieght 'issue'
I just ended up telling her that seeing as I had almost lost him as a baby, and he is now a rather 'healthy' child allbeit with some health issues, his centiles being 'odd' were the least of my worries.
the most stupid thing was, his hieght was on the 0.4th line, his weight was on the 9th, so hardly indicative of a majorly overweight child anyway! all the farkin centiles lines are utter crap....they are used to scare new mums into thinking they have a majorly sick child when they are clearly thriving in all other aspects (me at one point in fact), and used to 'prove' said obesity panic.
so.....I have no lost complete faith in the normallity of all the so called school nurses and will be opting out from now on!
