my ds avoided the ORT. he's not had a reading book from school for 3 years. Because he takes them in from home. They don't have to read books from school.

Oxford Reading Tree

A reading scheme, apparently designed with coma in mind.

I asked my son's reception teacher if they had ORT in reception. She pulled a face and said "No, we use books. a lot of them are old books, but the spelling is still the same and the words still work"

She had a damn good point (even if I do remember my little sister bringing some of the books home 13 years ago!)

BlueDragonfly · 23/05/2008 20:59

I do apologise for my postIn a rush.

GrimmaTheNome · 23/05/2008 21:00

Now my DD is well past that stage I really miss Floppy the dog. I think he was the only thing that kept her attempting to read in Infants. Her school had several other schemes running concurrently and some of those were sooooo booooring I cant even remember what they are.

Magic Key magazines total waste of time and money though! Save the pennies till they are old enough for the Beano.

ranting · 23/05/2008 21:01

Oh I loathe Buff, Chump and Skipper. Luckily they don't exclusively use ORT in my dds school but why wouldn't you use the library in addition anyway.
