Need advice on Bucks in year school admission!

Hi everyone,

Would love some advice!

We are in the process of buying a house near to Wendover, Bucks. Relocating from Surrey due to my work! We are 4 weeks in to instructing solicitors, now awaiting searches etc Completed chain on either side selling our house and purchasing the new one.
We are working towards exchanging at some point in July (expect this to be mid-late July!) and completing August (we hope as early as possible)

We’ve decided on an Infant and Junior school in Wendover which has multiple vacancies in the years we need to start in September.

I am getting really panicked that once we submit the in year application to Bucks county council (once we have exchanged) that it will be the school summer holidays therefore our application won’t be processed / school place confirmed. Bucks council says this:
‘We often can't make offers over the summer holidays as schools are closed. It is very unlikely that your child will be able to start their new school at the beginning of the autumn term’

Has anyone had any experience of successfully having had a school place confirmed over the summer??

Both the infant and junior school have told me they WILL be checking their emails over the summer, not daily but enough to hopefully pick up any update from Bucks.

my other question I would love people’s thoughts / advice on - should I just submit an application now - our solicitor has prepared a letter that states they are instructed on the house with address provided and we have our mortgage details on the new address too. Would this at least get us in the ‘system’ to start the application? Likely bucks council would not confirm until we show further evidence (exchange confirmation)
or do I just wait until we exchange end of July and hope for the best?!?

I can’t decide what is best! Annoying there is no number to call for bucks council to speak with someone, and I can’t see an email address just an automated form to fill in. Grr!

thanks so much x

@ItssssAMeMariooo92 Yes please to the private link, that would be fab! Thanks. Is it a Facebook group or on mumsnet do you mean? Great to hear your friend’s positive experience with the school

@Suzanna123 I have children at JH and Juniors. JH is a dream, it is a perfect, nurturing infant school. The utterly amazing Head is leaving, but the deputy has got her job and she is just as wonderful, so no worries there.
Juniors is a weird one, kids love it and do well, but us parents don't love it! Can't put a finger on it. The admin is very disorganised, and we're atheist so don't love the religious component (but we knew that, it's CoE after all!). It's just not JH. Maybe that's a good thing, they're trying to prep kids for senior school. I feel they could do more clubs, fun activities, trips etc, everything seems tick-box, minimum-will-do type attitude. But we're sending our middle child there in September, and eldest is going into Y6 so she's been there almost all way through. We considered going elsewhere but they have such wonderful friends so we're sticking for now. It's absolutely fine, just some niggles that slowly eat away at you!
And welcome to Wendover, we LOVE it here. It's an awesome place to live and raise children.

@Gattopardo OK this is making me think to put the application through in the coming days (4 weeks mark before end of term is next week)
Slight risk in case we don’t end up exchanging of course..! But I know our current schools in Surrey have spaces so I would hope we could just re-submit to current schools if the worst happened and the house fell through…

Can't you just wait to give notice to them until you have exchanged contracts?

@Scottishgirl85 So helpful to read, thank you. How you describe the juniors is exactly how I felt when I visited - ‘it seems absolutely fine, kids looked happy but I wasn’t blown away as a parent’ so I really am hoping for the best he will enjoy it and do well. Your eldest has been happy yes?
I guess it’s hard comparing it to an infant that is uttterly amazing as you say. Great to hear how brilliant John Hampden is!

Is your middle child going into year 3 in September?
I am hoping to reach out to other mums who have children going to the juniors in year 3, if there are any popular weekend / after school clubs that you know of, please do let me know!
Thanks again x

@Suzanna123 yes come Sept, my eldest daughter will be going into Y6, younger daughter into Y3 and I also have a son age 2.5.
Sounds like you have a son going into Y3, so I'm not as in touch with boys clubs, but most of the boys are in the football club at the John Colet school (also same campus) and I know Beavers is popular too.
Feel free to PM me if you want more info, very happy to help!
