Just wanted to ask those of you with 8/9 year old girls- how many good friends does your daughter have?
my daughter has never had a big bunch of friends and has just 2 good friends. I try to encourage her to get to know others but she just won’t. I just worry if she has a big falling out with one of them she could have problems.
In my head I think it’s better to be hanging out with more people!

My daughter is 15 now but always had just 1 to 2 core friends growing up. Even now, in secondary school, she is part of a larger friendship group but has just 2 who are her proper friends. We’ve had some bumps in the road - times when she’s not had anyone and that was tough for her (and for me to see as a mum) but she got through and learnt a lot about friendship, how people can be mean and how it feels to be on the outside. All useful to be a more rounded person imo.

She just walked into the room whilst I was typing and I asked her about it - she said it is nicer to have a small number of close friends because, in her words, girls can be really bitchy so you keep the ones you can trust and then you can always be yourself.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much - if your daughter is happy and socialising well then I’m sure she’ll be fine Flowers
