Are Yr6 pupils really supposed to live, breathe and eat just 3 subjects all year?

Or is our school just getting into serious SATs panic mode?

Because in a burst of pre-SATs resentment on Monday DS#1 tells me that the has done no history or geography since last year. And science is just more tests and no real science. No RE either but that doesn't seem to bother him. And one hr lesson of PE. Ditto music.

Is that normal? And if so isn't it spectacularly appalling? Having been a sort of 'oh dear, I know SATs are a pita dear but just get your head down and get it over with' sort of parent, I am now quite annoyed. In what way is only learning about numbers, letter and (by a very narrow definition) science an 'education'? And so much of it is revision.

My Ds school have been doing SATS revision since coming back into the summer term. No homework all year long and now 3 weeks solid, of around 3 tests a day. I found the first couple of tests he did quite well then after 3 weeks repetitive testing his scores have actually dropped quite considerably. Poor thing is so fed up with it, if he hears SATS he just turns off.

All this makes me realise just how much I love my kids'school. Yes they've done some revision, but they've been doing lots of other stuff too, and PE never seems to suffer. They have been encouraged to get in early to get some fresh air before the tests this week. It's lovely to see Y6 children running to get into school early!! And they certainly get good results. Hope the week goes smoothly for everyone and their dcs

DS has has a relaxing weekend doing things he loves. Hasn't thought about SATs at all. Went in to school this morning quite happily. He's bored to death with them but he knows it's only 5 days to go.
