We do Rigby rockets and stars at my school.Don't all schools use different schemes?

Blu · 02/05/2008 14:25

DS could barely actually read at all in Reception. He could read c-v-c words.

schneebly · 02/05/2008 14:26

still on ORT 1+ poor wee mite is the youngest in his class and I just don't think he was quite as 'ready' as the others. He is popular in class and enjoys school though and teacher says he is making progress so that is fine as far as I am concerned.

we have 'morning activities' with them on a Friday and today the had a worksheet with a space to draw and it said

My favourite pet is a

schneebly - that's brilliant, he's spelling phonetically which is a great first stage and picking up some of the common blends 'ly' rather than writing 'lee'
A star I say

Don't know what level dd is on as she has her book at school and I don't know off the top of my head.

FranSanDisco · 02/05/2008 14:30

Ds is on ORT 6 but it is torture - 32 pgs a book and he really needs to get some pace to his reading before I lose the will to live. I know he's doing well but he really doesn't want to read after school so it's a battle

schneebly, i htink that is fantastic effort ...my 8 dd's spelling is pretty much that standard...( she does have some literacy ishoos!)

CountessDracula · 02/05/2008 14:32

just started on 7
but she is the oldest

mourningpaper · 02/05/2008 14:34

I don't know! I really must pay more attention

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 02/05/2008 14:37

I've just looked it up. She should be starting 3 this week. She's one of the youngest and according to the teacher is able/bright so not sure what's going on with her reading level looking at your answers...

Piffle · 02/05/2008 14:37

dd on st 2 but whizzes through. Was offered a step or two up but she is happy!

DD is plodding through all the trunk stories/more stories A and B even though she can read each book through with perhaps one or two words causing a problem

LaundryFairy · 02/05/2008 14:41

ORT 10-11. Just brought home some new ones and seems to be ok.

10 - 11?!

slalomsuki · 02/05/2008 14:45

ORT 4 with other books at the weekend

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 02/05/2008 14:45

That's the reading age of an 8 1/2 yr old!!

hotcrossbunny · 02/05/2008 14:46

I have no idea how dd is in comparison to rest of the world - we have a 'real books' policy, so reading scheme books mixed in with, well, real books. I think she is doing really well, it is a very unpressured way of learning to read which is suiting us just fine. Oh and gets rid of the competitive 'what level is little Jimmy on?'

She can read cvc words and nearly all of the common, possibly key words???? She can work out longer words using her phonic knowledge but is sometimes put off and needs it breaking into smaller chunks IYSWIM. She is happy to pick up any book and have a good go at it
