Btw she isn't 5 until end July if that makes a difference.

LaundryFairy · 02/05/2008 14:47

Yes 10-11, but did I mention that he still needs someone to literally hold his hand while he poos in the toilet?

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 02/05/2008 14:49

HCB - that sounds like my dd and she is a summer baby too. Looking here ORT age reference thingy she's doing fine. Don't know why I'm even checking it, she's happy as larry and progressing well so now am going back to my smug mother bubble

I must pay more attention so I can join in with the competitive parenting

I have noticed that DD doesn't have any problem with words like "Princess" and "Castle"

IReadItSoItMustBeTrue · 02/05/2008 14:54

is there a list of these books anywhere?

imaginaryfriend · 02/05/2008 14:55

My dd just moved up to Stage 7 but she also has a problem with stamina, she just can't cope with 32 pages with that many words on each page so I usually read her books with her over 2 or 3 sittings unless she's feeling very alert.

I can't help but wonder if that means the reading level is too high for her. Surely it would be better to be on a lower level and manage to finish the whole book?

CountessDracula · 02/05/2008 14:55

what is competitive about answering a straight question?

wtf are you in mourning about btw?

IReadItSoItMustBeTrue · 02/05/2008 14:56

mourningpaper · 02/05/2008 14:57

of course it's competitive

I LIKE being competitive, it's fun

I think mine is on something LOW though, the books she gets from school are very short and boring

I'm in mourning about the terrible local election results and the likely loss of the London election, a perfectly reasonable response

IReadItSoItMustBeTrue · 02/05/2008 14:58

Are these the Floppy, Kipper and chip books?

CountessDracula · 02/05/2008 14:59

oh yes right
I will be similar if Boristhemoron gets in

imaginaryfriend · 02/05/2008 14:59

I think of it more as interesting than competitive. Nosy.

The London election hasn't been announced yet has it?

CountessDracula · 02/05/2008 14:59

Kipper, Chip, Biff
What stupid names

motherinferior · 02/05/2008 14:59

Christalmighty, I have absolutely no idea.

I don't think they Do levels. But they may. Can't be arsed to find out.

IReadItSoItMustBeTrue · 02/05/2008 15:01

FOUND A LIST

CountessDracula · 02/05/2008 15:01

don't be so farking lazy MI
All you have to do is turn over the book and the level is written on the back!

DD tells me what level she has this week!

OrmIrian · 02/05/2008 15:02

I have no idea. I really don't want to know as I suspect he is way behind all the others. He can read OK if he spells the words out (even 'Hop, hop hop' has to be spelled out 3 times ) but he is an idle little beggar like his big brother and would rather not thankyou very much. And as for writing..... But he's is slowly progressing so I'm OK with it.

imaginaryfriend · 02/05/2008 15:02

IReadIt, yes they are. They get much better around Stage 5.

imaginaryfriend · 02/05/2008 15:04

Dd also knows what stage she's on. And what stage all her friends are on.

imaginaryfriend · 02/05/2008 15:04

Has bloody Boris won then???

mourningpaper · 02/05/2008 15:05

I don't think mine DO levels

None of those books look familiar

They just have a pile of Easy Reception Books that she brings home and I make her read them to her 2 year old sister before bed while I am Mumsnetting

Am I a terrible parent

francagoestohollywood · 02/05/2008 15:05

ds spent six months in reception and 4 months in yr one and could barely read cvc words and reception key words.
