I haven't seen another thread similar to previous years, so thought it would be beneficial to start one as exams are now 1 month away.
I think SHHS, UCS, KCJS and WUS are all in October.

Also - Curious to see if number of applicants are down this year, with Labour's VAT raid.

Do you honestly not think they’ve thought of that? I agree with the other posters, I would concentrate your energy on your son and their experience and not on the speculation about all of this. They are so busy.

Caps0218 · 26/11/2024 21:35

@Choccybuttonsandprosecco It’s a 5 minute phone call. My child will be fine. I’ll revert back on here once I speak to admissions.

@Caps0218 agree a quick call won’t do any harm, it’s a valid question, thanks for sharing and addressing.

Caps0218 · 27/11/2024 16:20

Different paper in the afternoon it seems.

Good luck everyone with City tomorrow. Warm clothes needed as windows apparently open in the classrooms!

Caps0218 · 29/11/2024 18:03

How did people find SPJS 2nd round and also City exam today?

OP posts:
FutureWestLondonMommy · 29/11/2024 19:20

Does anyone know how many spots City Junior has and is it equally divided for girls and boys? Do you know how many pupils sit the exam and what the facilities are like? Thank you

Caps0218 · 29/11/2024 19:25

@FutureWestLondonMommy There were 16 groups of 20, so 320 people sitting.
They take 75 in total, roughly split equally between boys and girls.
Don’t think they have the best facilities, due to location.

OP posts:
FutureWestLondonMommy · 29/11/2024 19:38

Thanks @Caps0218 .How do they manage swimming, sports etc? Bus kids to different locations? Has anyone sent a kid to CJS to give a qualified opinion on the school?

Holidayissues · 29/11/2024 19:38

How did your DC find it @Caps0218

We have Dulwich tomorrow. Anyone else at Dulwich?

Caps0218 · 29/11/2024 19:42

@Holidayissues He said that It was the easiest exam so far (he has done the 3 boys schools).
Maths, dictation and comprehension were the most simple, nothing like SPJS and WUS. The story was not as easy as Kings.

@FutureWestLondonMommy i think bus them around, no idea.

Does anyone have any idea when Habs Boys will send out invitations for round two?

Does anyone have any idea when Habs Boys will send out invitations for round two?

The results for Habs will be around the 9th apparently.

JadeDeer · 29/11/2024 22:08

Easier than SPJS and WUS. Found it quite fun. Good atmosphere. Second round of SPJS was apparently easier than the first round and mostly oral…

FutureWestLondonMommy · 29/11/2024 22:16

Hi @JadeDeer , did your DS sit any others? How did he do at WUS? What sort of things did they do in Round 2 at SPJS? Good luck

JadeDeer · 29/11/2024 22:33

He doesn’t say much, so not sure how much of this is accurate.

  • WUS - didn’t pass the first round. Said it was very very difficult. Especially maths and verbal reasoning. Lots of questions he couldn’t get to / left blank. Had a very strong sense he hadn’t gone through
  • habs - found it relatively easy. Managed to finish all the questions.
  • SPJS - found it very difficult - similar to WUS. Left several questions blanks. Was also quite confident he hadn’t made it, but he went through. Second round was class setting with maths questions and discussions on general topics. Not sure if there was much writing going on…
  • city - found it easy. Only left 1 question blank. No idea if he passed or not.. anyone knows when results are out?
Caps0218 · 29/11/2024 22:38

Kings - Passed first round, found exam ok. Left 2 questions out in Maths, 1 in English and found some VR tricky. Didn’t get offer.
He scored 64% in English and 79% in Maths.

WUS - Didn’t get through to 2nd round, found NVR tricky and left out 1/3 of English paper! Found Maths easy.
English 40%, Maths 90%.

SPJS - Was unwell, bad we gave him Calpol and sent him, but he was not great and basically said he found everything difficult, even Maths which he is strong in. Wasn’t meant to be.

City - Easiest out of all exams.

@JadeDeer City results out next Friday.

OP posts:
FutureWestLondonMommy · 29/11/2024 22:51

@Caps0218 did you get any other feedback from Kings re cut offs?

FutureWestLondonMommy · 29/11/2024 22:52

@JadeDeer how do you compare habs and city? We are not from here so learning about schools here…thank you

Caps0218 · 29/11/2024 22:56

FutureWestLondonMommy · 29/11/2024 22:51

@Caps0218 did you get any other feedback from Kings re cut offs?

His scores put him 30th - 60th candidate bracket. So he did well.

OP posts:
FutureWestLondonMommy · 29/11/2024 22:56

@Caps0218 if you had the choice of any school, how would you rate the top …say 7?
Thank you

Caps0218 · 29/11/2024 23:00

@FutureWestLondonMommy Tough one.
We loved SPJS, as DH went there.
Ignoring location, I would say:
SPJS
KCJS
Highgate
WUS
City

OP posts:
FutureWestLondonMommy · 29/11/2024 23:04

Thanks @Caps0218 . And Habs/Latymer/Merchant Taylor etc after….? How did you prepare? Ps - Great score at Kings and great Maths score at WUS. Would you take any offer you get?

Caps0218 · 29/11/2024 23:08

@FutureWestLondonMommy With DS being so strong in Maths, he’s weak in English, and schools these days (top ones) want a minimum in English.
We are now aiming for City, Highgate and UCS….and if we are fortunate to get an offer or 3 then we will choose.
Habs is a good school, as is Latymer. MT is not in the same league as them academically.
