P1 girl told DS that I (his mum) am weird

Not sure what to make of this.

DS started primary school (P1) only last week. He hasn't been too enthusiastic about it. Tonight I was asking him about the boys and girls in his class. He said there was one bold girl who had said something about me. He didn't want to tell me but eventually said that she said I was weird.

DS is quite upset about this.

Initially I tried to say that weird is good but he wasn't happy with this. So I've said that if anyone says anything that upsets him again to say "that isn't very nice" and then go tell the teacher. Right now I'm worried that that is rubbish advice. So any ideas would be welcome.

I've no idea who this child is. A little worried that in speaking to parents outside school, I've made a weird impression and a child has overheard her parents saying this.

I think you’re way overthinking a random remark from. 4/5 year old. Teach your child that other people’s opinions of you are just that — their opinions. Don’t make him deal with your own anxiety about how you come across to other parents.

For instance, I was definitely ‘weird’ in the eyes of most of DS’s reception classmates’ parents because I was one of only two working mothers out of 27 children, and they couldn’t understand why I cycled everywhere ‘because I could afford not to’.
