What is the point in a parent's evening one week before the end of the year?

Can anyone shed some light please? My ds is in a state junior school and our parent's evening is 7 days before they break for the summer holidays...what's the point?!

At our school, we have always had one that's do discuss the pupil's end of year report.

Is this the only one you’ve had all year?

Ours is optional, but it’s mainly an opportunity to ask any questions about the report, and remind parents of any key areas a child needs support on (where appropriate). Hardly anyone comes!

The teacher can discuss progress over the whole year, if needs be they can work with families to set targets for the next year.

in a lot of ways it the perfect time to do it (although not for the staff who have an extra item on the end of year list!)

@TinyYellow no, we get one in October when the teacher has only known the children for a few weeks...I feel somewhere in between would work best?

Our school does a parent consult in October and another in Feb and then a report at the end of the year, and anyone that wants to discuss the report has an opportunity at optional consult the following week. (E.g Report issued on Friday afternoon, optional consult Tues or Weds the next week. End of term the week after).

Usually it's to share progress and to raise any issues that need to be passed on to next teacher (they probably already will have been).

Pretty sure we'll get a progress report next week. He has the same teacher next year (unfortunately).
