Thought I’d set up a thread for those of us sitting our DS/DD for the 4+ in 2023 (for September 2024 start date). Anyone had any assessment day(s) yet?

OP posts:

Hi - the junior school head at shhs is the one leaving

Bertie1812 · 16/01/2024 16:45

Habs did ages ago, I don’t know about Highgate

KimchiLaLa · 16/01/2024 20:19

Now that the assessments are over, would anyone mind sharing what they did in the habs first and second rounds?

tiktokontheclock · 16/01/2024 20:19

For girls

Padina82 · 17/01/2024 16:52

My DS went for his assessments for UCS pre-prep (1st round) and The Hall at the start of Jan (for entry into Reception) - and he didnt get through the UCS assessment. Although dejected by the result, we are still waiting to hear from the The Hall.

However, another parent at our nursery mentioned that The Hall assessments are more rigorous and if a child cannot clear the 1st round at UCS, then its unlikely they can get into The Hall.
Can anyone shed some light on this please?

LondonCoffeeLover · 17/01/2024 20:06

I’m not an expert but I did get the impression The Hall is harder to get into, in general. Though I’d assume it depends a lot on how the child feels on the day, maybe he cooperated better at The Hall.
Plus The Hall has 48 places, I think UCS takes in fewer children if I remember well.

My son also did both and said the games at The Hall were more interesting but didn’t explain, could mean anything…

Gosh, all change then given the new overall head. Do you know when she is leaving and where she is going? Thank you! Shame as she seemed great.

I hear SPCS has a new head as of this academic year and apparently the charterhouse square head is leaving too at the end of this year.

Is that level of change usual or are there shifting sands in the sector / this part of London? Interested to know people’s thoughts.

Canadawaterchick82 · 17/01/2024 20:43

That’s right SPCS has a new head, who’s got good strategic moves planned from what I have heard. We’ve yet to gain any personal experience as DS isn’t due to start until Sept, positive change I hope. Let’s see

MatchaMama · 17/01/2024 22:13

I don't agree with this , personally I have no experience with either schools but a very good friend ds had rejections from habs and UCS but got into the hall and thriving this was a few years ago) your DS might if had an off day at ucs or something it's down to luck at 4 plus too as the kids are so small .

Any idea how many children appear for second round of Habs and how much is waitlist and does it clear as some children must be selected in other schools as well.

They mentioned at the open day that around 70 children get called for 2nd round, there are 40 places. Offers must be accepted by 7th February so I guess some waiting list places might be released then, after that I'd say places are unlikely to become available.

Discoverdock · 18/01/2024 10:53

Has everyone finished their assessments now? The waiting game is on…..I think most school results are published 29/1?

the Long wait!

user1469968406 · 18/01/2024 14:00

We still have NLCS round 2 on Monday next week. Looking forward to finishing!

tiktokontheclock · 18/01/2024 14:33

Parentingin2024 was that the girls school tho

MEPOP12 · 18/01/2024 14:42

@user1469968406

Do you have another child in NLCS? We also have round 2 on Monday but thought this day was just for siblings.

can’t wait for all to be over!

user1469968406 · 18/01/2024 14:49

No, we don't. Do you?

I'm not sure about the girls school, sorry! I hope you receive good news Flowers

Bertie1812 · 18/01/2024 18:27

I don’t think there were that many kids in round 2 at habs. Assessments were over 4 days and 3/4 kids in a group

tiktokontheclock · 18/01/2024 19:56

parentingin2024 we will be doing it next year!

So they did the second round as groups rather than 121?

Bertie1812 · 18/01/2024 22:11

i believe there were 3 teachers in each group

MEPOP12 · 19/01/2024 09:35

Could someone please share of what was assessed in NLCS second round. Thanks

MEPOP12 · 19/01/2024 09:36

I have notes on SHHS round 2. PM me if you need this information

Yeswoman123 · 19/01/2024 10:15

Any ideas on what time the Dulwich schools will email out today?

Tiredmumofthreekids · 19/01/2024 10:27

So they did the second round as groups rather than 121?

The second round is done in small groups of 3-5 kids, the assessment is long (its 1.30 hour ) so they will have enough time for group activities and 1-2-1 interaction with the assessors
