Are there well-read MNs who can help me with World Book Day?

Last year it took me hours trawling the charity shops to find costumes for the DSs. I haven't got the time or the inclination this year, so I went to a fancy dress shop. It had some good roman centurion outfits and some soldier outfits. I can't think of a book character to fit these though, can anyone else?

TIA

Well...DS 1 rejected the Asterix idea, even though we borrowed an Asterix book from a friend and he really enjoyed reading it on the way to the fancy dress shop. He said the Roman outfit made him look girly and everyone would laugh at him.

DS2 is going as Robin Hood. He caused a bit of a scene in the shop because I wouldn't spend £5.00 on a crappy little bow and arrow that would have snapped within 2 minutes of leaving the shop. Twas a bit embarrassing as two teachers from school were in there checking out outfits for themselves, and they saw me getting exasperated with the DSs. I did offer to help him make his own bow and arrow.

Even the shop owner commented on WBD being a bit stressful for everyone. She must have sold more outfits today than the whole of the rest of the year.

For the soldier outfit he could be Traction Man.
It's a picture book by Mini Grey.
My DS was going to go as this but is now going as Sheriff Pa from Cowboy Baby
