Those of us with new Reception starters...

I just wondered if anyone had a little one starting in reception this week and wanted a safe non judgemental space to chat about how they are getting on / any worries etc.
My little one started last week (very reduced hours though) and is full time from Monday. So far so good, I just so desperately want her to settle and be happy!

Well the first proper week starts for us tomorrow. Planning a nice calm evening and bedtime ahead of the overtired nightmares that I'm sure will be coming our way next week!

Mine has been exhausted and gone to sleep on the sofa a few times before bedtime, when I've been putting dd down. Then kicked off when I've woken him to go upstairs.

Was really worried on Friday because I knew he was tired but I think the school appreciated they were all tired and they had a pretty gentle day.

Just counted and we had 10 messages through parent mail and two Tapestry notices last week. One homework exercise. Next week we have to send in two photos. And two days in PE kit. Aaaaah . . .

Full days for us from tomorrow too. Uniform is washed and ready to go. I bought so new school shoes for DS over the weekend - all the other children seem to basically be wearing trainers rather than the more 'school' type shoe I bought DS so I've bought him some trainers too. Far more practical for Reception and allowing him to run around all day. He says he's excited about going tomorrow so we'll see.

DS has done 6 half days with 3 of those ending after lunch. So far so good, but then he was already doing 8 to 5, 3 days a week at preschool with 8 of the children that are now in reception with him.

He is 5 in about 6 weeks though, so he'd been ready for a few months. My main issue is keeping up with the flipping Class Dojo and Scopay apps!

Owing to an August decision to move his school after a failed class size admissions appeal elsewhere, we found out on the last Friday of the holidays that he had been admitted to the school, on the Monday at 2pm they emailed to say could we pick up an information pack by 4pm, and he started at 9am Tuesday!

He's been enjoying it, a little clingy in the mornings a couple of times, half days the first week and a full week this week which has wiped him out!

Drop off and pickup is chaotic so we've had no more than a brief hello from his TA and teacher but all seems ok.

We've had a week of full days now. It has gone as well as it could I think; yesterday I picked him up and his teacher said that every time she turned round, he was laughing or giggling about something which is all I can ask for. DS loved his music and PE lessons too. He seems to need an hour or two of downtime when he gets him just to chill out but overall, I'm super proud of him.
