Taking child out of school for holiday

Hi, we are off for a big family Holiday one week before school ends.
My family did book it and I wasnt aware of the date. Its a special holiday for us and we are really looking forward. But I will have to take my son out of school on the 17th ( last day is 21st) so he will miss whole week of school.
What shall I do as I am really stressed about this.
He's attendance was always great in previous years but this year he had a lot problems with his tummy so he does have attendance 87proc.
What shall I do ?
Call the school saying he is sick ?
I dont want to request a holiday as I know they will say no and then it would be suspicious.
I dont want to get in trouble and also put my son in trouble.
He is on year 5.
He's educating is perfect. Homework on time etc. never had a red or yellow card.
What would you do ?

Thanks in advance

Just email the school and let them know you are going on holiday.

You will probably get a £60 fine.

With 87% attendance I wouldn't go on the holiday. 90% and below is classed a persistent absence so I wouldn't go if he's already been off a fair bit. I suspect most people view these situations very different to me.

Just call him in sick.
They possibly won't be doing much the lay week anyway.
When he is older and finished education you will look back and wonder why you were so worried about this!

This thread is from June so I suspect the OP has already resolved this one way or another…
