My DS did well in all his SAT practice papers, but said the reading paper today was tough.

I'm pleased it's done now. He's been sitting exams (11 plus included) for so long and is shattered. I'm not going to think about it. I'll refrain from looking at the papers and questions when they're eventually published online as it will definitely serve no purpose.

All the Kids looked happy at pick up ! I don’t think they will forget that reading paper and will laugh about it in years to come hopefully 😃

Do they publish them? I am curious to have a look.

SamPoodle123 · 12/05/2023 17:07

I just asked my dd how it went and she said it went well. The SATs are clearly not on her mind, as she never mentions it at pick up and she is happily focused on other things. I always eventually ask, as I am curious. She said it was really fun today and they had a party after they were finished :) Now she has a full and fun weekend, so she is busy getting ready for it (sleepovers, party, tournament etc).

I am glad it is over for everyone and now the dc can enjoy their weekend.

They will eventually and when they've marked them and set the grade boundaries they'll publish those in the summer.

Daydreamscometrue · 12/05/2023 17:12

My DS is just home. He said maths was fine. I think the maths papers have been fair.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/05/2023 17:13

Anyone else's dc just been totally blasé about the whole thing? All I get out of my dc is "it was fine. Bit boring"

Frankly she could get 100% or 0% and I'd have no forewarning.

Yup, this is completely my dd. I would not have known she took the SATs if her school did not email about it. She comes out smiling every day and talking about other things (her activities, play dates, what she wants to eat etc). It is not on her mind at all. Eventually I will ask her. But for example today no mention of it until just now, when I asked her and it has been almost two hours since I picked her up. She did the 11+ though, so I think for her that is what mattered and SATs she thinks is just a test for the school.

Dacadactyl · 12/05/2023 17:55

When do the results come out?

miccoops · 12/05/2023 18:32

Mid July

Daydreamscometrue · 12/05/2023 18:32

Teachers get them early July. First week.

DuckBushCityLimit · 12/05/2023 18:33

Think it's been pushed back to 11th July this year due to the extra bank holiday this week.

Feenie · 12/05/2023 18:57

11th July is correct - a week later because of the one day bank holiday, which really threw my Y6 children this week.

Do the secondaries get the data the same time as the primary? Or does the Primary get a chance to check and dispute any of the scores?

Secondaries, only get the data when the child's electronic file transfers though, this isn't until the child has started at their new school. Secondaries may request data prior to this but not all do!

spanieleyes · 12/05/2023 20:11

Primary schools can request remarks/corrections if they spot any errors, in this case the results don't come through until September.

So if they allocate sets based on this data, how do they prep timetables / sets for the intake in time?

TeenDivided · 13/05/2023 06:40

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz At DD's old secondary school, the y7 transition leader visited (with relevant y7 ex pupils where possible) all the main feeder primary schools between now and end June to talk to the y6 teachers and also meet the new pupils. (I don't think they visited all of them as up to 40 schools sent pupils, but most would have come from around 8 schools). Schools provided information on academic ability but also other stuff like friendships. They made up the mixed ability tutor groups based on input from the primary schools to try to ensure pupils had at least one person they got on OK with in their tutor group. They were only initially set for Maths and even that was adjusted at half term if needed.

Re friends. If there is someone you really don't want your child in a tutor group with due to previous history of bullying then make sure the y6 teacher is aware and/or tell the new school. I personally think that is more important than being with friends.

spanieleyes · 13/05/2023 07:25

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz

As Teendivided has said. Some schools arrange visits to the primary, some ask for pages of information to be completed(!) some don't bother at all! I would think those that don't ask use CATS tests for setting or don't set either for the first term or not at all.

My dd is not going from any of the main feeders, and will be the inly student from her school going there.

I assume in that case the school will ask her Primary about her ability.

TeenDivided · 13/05/2023 07:33

I would assume so Bernadette . The other thing is some schools do CAT tests on the transition day(s) in July. I'm sure it will all work out. Any decent school that sets early will keep an eye and adjust if needed. Also again any decent school will par attention to 'only' children and make an effort to ensure they aren't isolated.

This is a very interesting analysis of the reading paper word count.

MrsArgos · 13/05/2023 08:28

@PatChaunceysFruitCake that sounds like an impossible paper, very strange they did this.

We are doing SATS next year. Are the tests Monday-friday, one test a day, or how does it work?

Wow! 34 seconds a question.. that is unbelievable.. no wonder the poor kids struggled. It’s published on the gov site later this month. It will be interesting to see.
