Applying for schools inside and out of London?

Hi all

Confused and hoping someone may be able to help! We're looking to move house and have found a lovely one in north Barnet, near Hertfordshire. Almost all the local primaries have all been oversubscribed the last few years (and we would be unlikely to get a place on distance), except for one which is currently "under improvement" and doing some research, has a few red flags for me (this is probably why the house is "affordable").

Does anyone know if it is possible to apply for London primayry school places, and also apply to schools in another county, and if so how it would work?

Thanks very much

You submit only one application form to your home LA but you can list schools in other LA on it. Bear in mind you may not qualify for a place at a popular school further away so worth including a "safe" bet locally(either usually undersubscribed or one you would normally get a place for on distance or other criteria). It will be based upon your address at the time of application, some LA allow an update in a short period afterwards and it still be considered "ontime".

You certainly can - although you apply via your home local authority although be aware that the main criteria you will be apply under (assuming not faith schools and you practice that faith) is distance so if you live some distance away from your chosen schools you are unlikely to get a place at a desireable school.
