Best way to go about keeping child off for a day

I know you can ask for a form to fill in but as it's a day holiday it will be declined. I would rather be honest just not sure how to go about it?

Any advise welcomed.

One day isn't going to set the ball rolling towards a fine or anything.
Either be upfront or don't be.
Your dc's teacher isn't going to be giving one day too much thought ( if any thought at all).

Just fill in the form! They won't authorise it (unless it meets the criteria to be authorised) but that doesn't mean you can't take them out for the day, just that it will be recorded as an unauthorised absence.

One unauthorised isn't going to haunt you

You fill in the form honestly.
They tell you they can't authorise the absence.
You keep your child away from school that day and it is recorded as an unauthorised absence.
All honest and above board.

In our school we would just email. X won't be in on y due to...... In Scotland so nothing happens it'd be marked down as unauthorised in the register.

I spoke to the head teacher. She said she couldn’t authorise the absence but totally understood why we were taking it and was fine about it

Just tell them the child will be off and the reason why. They wont authorise it but presuming the child hasn't already had lots of unauthorised absence this year nothing further will happen.
