Just wondered if anyone's primary school has started sports etc after school again?
Dd's primary hasn't had any since Feb 2020. Am hoping September...

Its been hard in particular for the kids who don't do the weekend clubs, which tend to be much more competitive and less inclusive round our way...

We started ours after Easter

GoFishFingers · 07/06/2021 16:39

School-run (not external) single year group sports clubs started back in April for us. One or two available for each year group, mainly 'multi sports'.

onemouseplace · 07/06/2021 16:40

Not a sausage. Although, the school football teams appear to be having matches, so I suspect they may be meeting for training, but if you're not in the know ...

Mumof3cherubs · 07/06/2021 16:48

External ones yes, the ones run by teaching staff no. I’m guessing they think money the school earns by hosting external clubs is worth any risk they feel prevents them running school led ones.

HSHorror · 07/06/2021 17:54

Similar to previous. I think at least scouts is running in the school

I think its fine school are already running the main before and after club.
But it is a pity dc1 used to do cookery and spanish and who knows if they will even restart.
I would also like them both to restart swimming lessons and dc2 gymnastics.

PotteringAlong · 07/06/2021 17:55

Yes, they started after Easter.

SushiGo · 07/06/2021 17:56

Nope.

Hoping for September too. Honestly if afterschool clubs disappear I might cry, they're such a great way to deliver fun, music and exercise to kids who aren't competitive/skilled enough for the Saturday clubs.

DelurkingAJ · 07/06/2021 17:56

Yes, although the choice is limited to keep them in their bubbles (although, to be fair, it’s still a decent selection, DS1 (Y3) had athletics after school today and could be doing choir, well-being and running).

mogtheexcellent · 07/06/2021 17:57

Nope. Maybe in September?

ColouringPencils · 07/06/2021 17:58

Nothing here, primary or secondary. It's so miserable for the kids. Missing out on 1.5 years of activity at that age is so detrimental. I can't see my kids picking up the things they have missed after all that time, they have lost confidence in just signing up to things Sad.

Same as Go, mainly multi sport style ones run by school staff. They’ve given priority to Y5 and Y6, so those ones started for the last four weeks of the Easter term. Then more options for other years this term.

My guess is that they’ve seen the physical effect of lockdown on the older children and thought they needed to act - but that is just a guess.

dameofdilemma · 07/06/2021 18:07

Part of me is just grateful the schools are able to open, its not been easy for teachers or pupils.
But agree with other posters - many kids are losing confidence, enthusiasm and their general well-being isn’t great.

Only in year group bubbles. And very limited.

They have PE lessons led by the local Private school teachers too.

Yr6 had a campout on the school field before half term.

RainingZen · 07/06/2021 18:15

There's a football club that has restarted, and the After school club is running. But that's all. Previously there was absolutely loads and loads and loads, both before and after school. A real shame but maybe one day these things will resume.

4bluebabies · 07/06/2021 18:18

Yes - for quite a while now - they were originally dressed up as child care to get round the rules

elliejjtiny · 07/06/2021 18:19

Nothing here

Gorkastalker · 07/06/2021 20:03

Our school do a sports club, it started in the summer term. They also do activity clubs after school.

LarkDescending · 07/06/2021 21:40

Our primary has restarted after-school sports this week (today!). Hurrah.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 07/06/2021 21:43

Yes - ours were open after Easter.

espresso14 · 07/06/2021 21:44

Nothing, apparently not safe, even had offers from by volunteers. But external before/after school club on school site, where all bubbles get mixed, is ok to run! Hmm

funniestpersonyouknow · 07/06/2021 21:47

Football and yoga clubs started up again just before half term - both are run by teaching staff. Each year group is also going on a trip to a wildlife park before the end of term.

suitcaseofdreams · 08/06/2021 12:41

External clubs started at Easter - my twins are doing science club, football and cricket. There’s lots of other stuff on offer too. Am hoping staff run clubs will be back in September though as they are so much cheaper....

StopTheSwim · 08/06/2021 16:35

Only wrap around offered here.

HT has said to me on the QT that the clubs won't be restarting for anyone but year 6, no idea why.

DistrictCommissioner · 12/06/2021 21:37

Wrap around care is on - until Easter it was only till 4.30 which was annoying but since Easter it’s come back till 5.30 thank heavens.

No extra curricular clubs are on at school, neither staff run or external providers.
