Soooo we love football in our family and the women's euros is coming to England next year and my granddaughter wants to go. She will be in year 4 so no exams etc and it's in July so at the end of.the year. Would you take your child? If so would you ask the school and if they say no would you do.it anyway? It's a big thing and it's prob not gonna happen again in England. Any advice would be great. Thanks

If you go without asking the school the parents are likely to be fined.

If you ask the school and they say no but you go anyway, the parents are likely to be fined.

If you ask the school and they say yes, the parents will not be fined.

The fine is for the 5th consecutive absence within a time frame. This is the minimum requirement but many authorities have extended this to several weeks before they consider fining anyone. I would check your Local Authority protocol.
They can extend but not reduce the statutory amount.

No, it isn't. The relevant legislation doesn't say that at all. It is up to the LA what rules they apply but, as far as the law is concerned, they could fine each parent £60 per half day unauthorised absence with no minimum number of absences before they start imposing fines.

In practice I don't know any that actually impose a fine per half day. Most fine per day, some fine per period of absence. Most have a minimum number of absences before a fine will be imposed but there is at least one LA that fines for any unauthorised absence.

Alot goes on in that last week. School trips, sports day, end of year plays, having induction days with new teacher etc etc. It's not a week my kids would want to miss.
