CRANMORE SCHOOL - looking for opinions of current parents please

Considering sending my two boys to Cranmore this September - into Year 1 and Year 3. From all meetings with staff and first hand information we are really impressed, and it seems like a great environment for our boys. One thing that worries me slightly though the suggestion it's a pushy environment and that the boys can become anxious and over stretched. Equally heard a lot of positives too but I'm feeling uneasy so just looking for some more current opinion really. Thanks

Hi, Can I ask if you did send your boys to Cranmore in the end? I'm a writer for The Good Schools Guide and am seeking parents to talk to about the school... Many thanks

The boys are not overly stretched, the classroom is fine. However, it really depends on what "type" of school you want and what kind of children you have. Cranmore is NOT a gentle school, it's brusque and regimented. As a prep school- fine, but the seniors are basically funding the future growth of the school while being educated in facilities that are small and basically at the level of a good state school. Teaching is good, but there are no areas for the boys to "grow" into, and not much scope for independence or maturity. The aura is verging on the military, as boys are rushed through the short day, with homework (especially art, as I've heard) being preparation for lessons that are not given enough time or importance in the curriculum. The school is fine, there is a lot of jostling and ingrained favouritism, therefore a lot to break through if you join as a senior. It's not a school for quiet, quirky or gentle boys!

I’d be keen for some up to date reviews of this school and what type of child would be best suited? Reviews on here don’t sound great but have things changed with the new head?
