We live in Barnes and are considering prep schools for our daughter. I was wondering if any local mums had daughters at Old Vicarage, Falcons Girls, Putney High prep or Ibstock Place prep and had any views to share?

My two boys will be going to Kings House in Richmond, we are starting from scratch with Girls school research!

I would love to hear some recent opinions on any of these schools. Thank you...

I have a close friend who has two girls at Falcons Girls. They rate it incredibly highly and it is small and very focused on the individual. Their daughters are both very different but both have thrived there.

Hi! I`m now considering the same schools. What did you choose?

@Dinara did you get a response to your message? Also looking at these schools for my daughter, would be great to hear of recent experiences / opinions on these.

You should visit the schools as you learn so much more on whether it is the type of environment you want for your child.

Personally I have visited recently Old Vic and Putney High - we did not end up in either of those for my little girl but I would have gone for Putney if I had to choose. I thought the girls were happier and achieving while having fun. In contrast I found Old Vic focused but suited for a certain type of girl and you could feel the academic pressure in the air too - I just did not feel the vibes or the happiness of the place - which may be what you are looking for after all so it is all personal.

@Coronateachingagain this is very helpful, thank you! I have so far visited just one school which prides itself on being relaxed and informal, which I think is great. why create unnecessary pressure amongst so young?.. there will certainly be enough of it as the kids grow. my view of course.

I would stay clear of a school that created aggressively competitive pressure on its pupils. incidentally, we are due to visit Old Vicarage, and I will look out for this.

another thing is I struggle I think to pick up on the vibes and feel of a place generally )) but I suppose the more schools you visit the better you become at this.

Thank you for your reply. If you don't mind, which school did you go for in the end, and are you happy with it?

p.s. looking up Putney High

my ds goes to King’s House and my dd goes to old Vicarage Richmond. I highly recommend OVS. The girls I feel are so well mannered and diligent at the same time enjoy life at school. Good at academics and activities both. Also, both schools have the holidays synced up, so it has never been a problem with organising childcare or planning holidays at the same time. Also, both schools are near each other, so convenient with a drop offs. I agree Putney high is a good school too but the commute between the two schools will be a mission, especially when you driving through traffic during peak hours.

@Iiolp Thank you for your message, most helpful to hear your views of the OVS. I actually visited only yesterday, and really enjoyed my visit there. I thought the facilities were excellent, and the girls seemed happy and relaxed.
I think would gladly send our daughter there having visited, though my husband is now keen to give our local primary a try first (it is rated outstanding and has good reviews). Thank you for posting!

All my grandchildren loved Kew Green Prep. The two oldest went on to Ibstock and Surbiton.
