So parent's evening yet again and I can tell that the teacher is not keen on dd and she is STILL not making any effort

at all. Sigh.

Poor dd. All she really wants to do is be left alone and read books.

But of course, yr 3 is a bit more than that.

They made them all do some sort of NFER test (I have no idea what this means) and she did very well but is plummeting down through the streams and the teacher feels the work she does at school is in no way an indication of the level of work she could be doing.

And err that's it.

We've got extra work to do at home but I'm at a loss really. I just don't know how to encourage her.

yes, I agree singersgirl. The focus of the infant years seems to be reading (which I totally understand). At parent's evening in yr1 and 2, I requested that they heard dd read a lot less if possible but spent an extra few minutes doing writing instead and they did do this but the problem at the time was that dd had no motivation to write (and I guess her fine motor skills may just not have been ready), so didn't progress.

The motivation is still not there yet but the fine motor skills are coming so hopefully we can now start making steps in the right direction!

poor you magnolia. Must be even harder for dt1 if dt2 is progressing well.

Also, foxnsox, you could give her a cute little notepad and small cute pen in her coat pocket so that she is encouraged to write down notes to her friends (tell her not to pass them over during class!) or even little things she wants to remember to tell you later.
