Swearing in year 3 reading book

My 7 year old in year 3 came home today with a new book for reading at home he opened the book and handed it to me. The first line of the book opens with swearing. Do you think this is appropriate?

We had “git” in a yr 3 reading book. I wasn’t too impressed.

@TheFormerPorpentinaScamander

When DS2 was a bit younger than that he refused to read or watch anything that said "oh my God" because he considered it swearing.

Whats the word in the book?

My DD (6) is like this- she gasped at Black Eyed Peas “I gotta feeling” as it says “like oh my God” in the lyrics Grin As I’ve told her to say “oh by goodness” instead

DD had a book in Yr 4 that had a swear word in it. Either "piss" or "pissing". Can't for the life me remember what it was called.

She mentioned it to her teacher and the book was put in a cupboard somewhere. DD then picked another book. No big deal.

And me

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 04/11/2020 18:14

@LittleRa I did similar, "oh my gosh" was his exclamation of choice.
Sadly he outgrew it. He's 14 now and does swear, though very rarely!

Don't you just love a vague post where the op knows people are going to want detail/pics

ComeOnBabyHauntMyBubble · 04/11/2020 18:17

@Diverseduvet

Dick Whittington 🤣
A few innocent souls only giggled because it's also the name of a local pub.Grin
Standrewsschool · 04/11/2020 18:19

Bloody?

Koalaismyspiritanimal · 04/11/2020 18:21

Not place-marking, no siree Grin
With my youngest, I was "that parent" and wrote in to school to complain about a reception level book that focussed on a farm creature referring to another as "fat pig". I've chilled out for subsequent dc Blush

MoonJelly · 04/11/2020 18:22

How can we possibly say whether it's appropriate without knowing what it is?

MimsyBorogroves · 04/11/2020 18:22

Was it this?

HokeyWokey · 04/11/2020 18:22

Once upon a fucking time?

CrazylazyJane · 04/11/2020 18:23

Is it Krindlekrax by Philip Ridley? I think that has some mild (and IMO harmless) 'swear' words in it.

Onjnmoeiejducwoapy · 04/11/2020 18:23

“The fucking cat sat on her cunt”

Vs

“The cat was a git”

Place your bets!

Arosadra · 04/11/2020 18:23

Tenner says it’s oh my God

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 04/11/2020 18:24

@Michaelbaubles

Let me guess: “The sweat wis lashing oafay Sick Boy; he wis trembling. Ah wis jist sitting thair, focusing oan the telly, tryin no tae notice the cunt. He wis bringing me doon.”
🤣🤣
ComeOnBabyHauntMyBubble · 04/11/2020 18:25

Ohhh might it be bitch in reference to a female dog? We had that one too once.

Also gasps and much shock/horror/hilarity at "shut up" and "stupid".

FelicityPike · 04/11/2020 18:26

Can’t wait for this one....IF OP comes back.

angstridden2 · 04/11/2020 18:30

Used to read Famous Five to year 3 a few years ago, always had to have a firm talk with them before commencing about not giggling at Aunt Fanny and Julian George Dick and Anne and Timmy the dog.

OohThatCat · 04/11/2020 18:33

The Vicar of Nibbleswicke? Roald Dahl book where the Vicar keeps saying things backwards, including sip (pis) and park (krap)?

Found it in my school library as a kid and obviously thought it hilarious Grin

Diverseduvet · 04/11/2020 18:38

OP where art thou?

Diverseduvet · 04/11/2020 18:40

James, a small boy desperately wished he could stroke the magic shiny knob like his friends.

Ohtannenbaumohtannenbaum · 04/11/2020 18:41

Can't wait for this to be something mild and hilariously over the top

JuliaJohnston · 04/11/2020 18:41

What a halfwitted question 🤦‍♀️ What is swearing, op??
