Am I a terrible person if I send her in without having read her book?

She's 4! I don't wanna be the terrible mother who didn't do the reading over the weekend, but if I try in a minute after breakfast it will be a rush and I'll snap at her....

Will they all be judgey with me??

no they will assume you have been doing one of a million and one other things mothers have to do instead.

Look, my brother didn't read a word until he was 8. I had an adult reading age at the age of 8. He actually reads far better books than I do - and understands them better because he doesn't scan, he reads. Early reading is not all it's cracked up to be! It can be pushed at the expense of other things - for example I could read fluently at 4, but couldn't count, catch a ball, get myself dressed, play alone or make a friend!

I am proud to say my ds1 has only about 10 words, but can do all of the above [smug] (if it's a big ball)

Oh, and that permission lasts all the way through primary school for this and any subsequent children. Secondary school is a different can of worms

Ah, see she is still young enough for me to bury my head in the sand and think that secondary school happens to other mums

I did that til year 6!

We usually get two or three books a week - if she read it well the first day we dony do it again, if she struggled then we do it the next day as well. I only ever write a sentence in her record book as the teacher tends only to do ' excellent' or 'great reading'.

She reads`stuff all the time like on the front of magazines, papers and even on here! We need to concentrate more on sums!

lol at comments in reading record, ours says dc1 read well, dc1 didn't want to read this book, dc1 wants to go to the zoo/make paper/grow cress (whatever the book was about).
