Brighton primary schools - moving to area and looking for advice re. local schools and in-year transfer

Hi all, we're moving to Patcham in November and I'm starting to look into primary schools for my reception age DD. I've contacted the council who have advised that the closest school, Patcham Infants, currently has a waiting list and Carden Primary, the next closest, has spaces.

I would like to find out opinions on both these schools please. I've managed to set up a visit to Patcham infants but Carden isn't doing them atm unfortunately although they did say to try again in a few weeks. I've read quite a few old Mumsnet threads that rave about Patcham but the only comment I can find about Carden is a bit negative. However these were all from several years ago so I'm aware things may have changed.

I'm also interested to hear if anyone has successfully gained a place via the waiting list and if it really disrupted your DC to move them. We'll already be moving DD once so if we were to go on a waiting list that could potentially mean three school moves in quick succession which seems too much. My DD is quite quiet and sensitive so I'm already nervous about moving her, particularly as she's only just started in reception. However if it means getting her into a school we prefer then I'm wondering if it's worth the disruption while she is still so young and hopefully won't remember it.

Thanks in advance!
