Girl's school shoes

DD1 is hopefully starting school in September. I never wore any kind of uniform and so have no experience of it at all.

First of all is beyond me why the schools don't let kids were trainers Hmm even black

So she's 4 and it seems that the more sturdy looking shoes have either laces or buckle instead of velcro. Is a buckle too difficult for a small child? Laces just seem like a no-no at this age. What is your experience?

Thanks!

They were bought from John Lewis. They are by Geox, it's called Hadriel.

It’s a big bone of contention with me that they still feel the need at age 4 to differentiate girls and boys school shoes! I have 2 girls both are active and one is especially hard wearing on shoes. My youngest struggles with laces at age 8 yet most of trainers marketed at girls are laces in her size yet I noticed the boys still had a big selection with Velcro... Geox are great hard wearing shoes. Luckily my eldest is at secondary both boys and girls mostly wear the leather converse which is great. I like Mary Jane Shoes but for a child that just loves to run, scuff, puddles and climb everything they aren’t practical for everyday school.
Hope your LO enjoys school OP, I love those shoes wish they’d had them when my started.

The laces are great... however DD2 managed to lose the fecking things after one day at school! I have no bloody idea how she managed that one - even in the grand history of DD2's dippyness!

We had similar to what the OP bought one year and they lasted really well (might have been the same ones to be honest). This year it'll be whatever's in the supermarket as I haven't bought anything yet.
