Eton/Winchester/Harrow Feeders within 1.5 Hrs of London

We are considering a move. At first we're convinced that Bucks was the way to go. After my most recent thread are more open to exploring other areas as long as they are within 1.5 hr commute to London.

So what are some prep schools we should take a look at that are actively known as feeders into Eton/Winchester/Harrow?

Friends have mentioned Dragon and we are looking at that. Open to single sex/coed, day or boarding. Care more about the ethos of the school and its exmissions.

Thank you!

Are you wanting a boarding or day prep?

Ludgrove and Sunningdale would be top of the list.
Kings college prep school in Cambridge if you want to go East.

Cothill House for light hearted boys , Summerfield for super competitive boys, Ludgrove for very traditional family. Sunningdale is a small one of a kind school, good for boys who love being in a smaller environment, Papplewick is also pretty good.

Yes agree with @Beyondthesea123
We also originally planned to move to Bucks but changed to Berks as really, the only viable prep for us near Bucks was Caldicott. Bucks is predominantly a grammar school area. We moved to Berks and are spoilt for choice.

Oxford: Summerfields, Dragon. Berkshire: Sunningdale, Horris Hill, Elstree, Cheam, Ludgrove, Brockhurst; Hampshire: Pilgrims, Twynford. For an easy commute I would probably prefer to live near Reading for cross rail. All those schools are boarding schools and easily accessible from Reading area.

Where are you at the moment, how far from ‘London’ do you want to be?

AlexandPea · 20/06/2020 10:25

Have a look at Sandroyd near Salisbury. I did hear (pre COVID) that they were full in every year, but things may have changed now.

Cothill has more going to Eton than the Dragon does, despite being a quarter of the size....

Eton is so big it draws from a huge range of schools. Harrow also. The better question is not which school is a “feeder”, it’s which school will give you honest advice about the best fit for your son.

St Custards is brilliant.

Closer to London and in West London (so about 1 hour away), King's House in Richmond is a good feeder for boys boarding schools, also Tower House in Sheen, and the Mall in Twickenham, although I think the latter will stop at 11+ soon.
