Hi everyone, this is my first post here and it looks like a very helpful and vibrant community! I was wondering if anyone has children (or know of children) who are currently attending The Elms primary in Long Eaton Nottingham? My daughter is supposed to start in September but I am now full of doubts which are depriving me of my sleep at night and I am not sure if we are doing the right thing. I would really appreciate your comments. Thank you.

Hi op, I think you've posted this message in the wrong place - very easy to do when you're new!
I've asked mumsnet to move it somewhere more appropriate, where hopefully you'll get more replies

Oh no silly me!! Thank you for letting me know!

I know a fair few people who've got kids there - they all seem pretty happy with it and the kids are a decent bunch (we do different activities with various ones of them). Looked at it briefly (grandparents would have paid) but mine are in a state infant school I'm generally very very happy with instead.

We looked at it but decided against it in the end as the drive to and from school would be too long. I would have been happy for mine to go there though, and friends DC who are there are very happy.

To be honest - the thought of having to try to get into Long Eaton on a morning was a large factor in "fuck god no" in our decision!

@SoyDora & @PantsyMcPantsface thank you for your comments and for taking the time to reply. Just out of curiosity, where would you have driven from to go to Long Eaton? We are in Beeston.

Same here PantsyMcPantsface!

I’d have thought beeston would be ok. We’re about 20 mins away on a clear run, so morning traffic would have been 30-40 mins.

I'm not far from you then - just find long Eaton traffic on a morning coming from this side is a pain in general (in reality it's probably the same as everywhere). Like I say, the families I know who go there are happy with the school but in the end we have ours at a school in Toton I'm very happy with.

Thank you for your comments SoyDora and PantsyMcPantsface, I appreciate your time x

Hi OP,
My son is in Yr 2. Been there since reception. He’s very happy there. The traffic can be heavy in the morning depending on what time you are on the road.
They can be dropped off from 8am and traffic is lightest then, building up after that.
We live close by so have no issues with the journey. I know a few families who live in Beeston and seem to have no issues either.
The traffic is usually heavy heading the opposite way into Nottingham so you will find the drive back home more tedious, presuming you are returning home after drop off?
Feel free to message me if you have any specific questions.

Thank you Naady! That's great to know! Our idea is indeed to drop off at 8 and then I will have to go towards Nottingham to work, however I have asked for flexitime so I can hopefully get to work slightly later. We are planning on having an au pair from September to help us in the first couple of terms, hopefully we might know more parents from Beeston and start liftsharing after that, depending on after school clubs etc etc. Thank you again for getting in touch, it is extremely helpful! I am amazed by the solidarity on this blog! Smile
