Level 3 at Maths and Reading, 2A at Writing. I don't know how it compares with others in his class but we are pleased (DS is indifferent). Ds is among the oldest (October birthday).

legacy · 16/07/2007 22:41

Level 3 for everything

legacy · 16/07/2007 23:10

(sorry - did I kill it then?)

wheresmysuntan · 17/07/2007 09:18

Level 3 for everything except Reading which was level 4. September born girl but 2.5 months premature so make of that what you will.

cleosmum · 17/07/2007 12:52

Can you get level 4 for reading? I thought you could only get level 4 if you did KS2 SATs and that KS2 SATS lumped reading and writing together?

(well done to your dd BTW).

allgonebellyup · 17/07/2007 12:54

YaY

Another one here with 3s for everything!

Especially proud of the 3 for Speaking and Listening as dd was once considered a "selective mute" due to her extreme inability to ever talk at school!!!!!

majorstress · 17/07/2007 12:56

all 3s! hurrah! (DD is, like, so? of course.)

allgonebellyup · 17/07/2007 12:58

although am now that it may have been possible for some kids on here to get level 4s. i didnt think you could at that age???

torquil · 17/07/2007 13:00

It wasn't possible to have a level 4 on our school reports.

What exactly is the point of this anyway?

erm dunno - school probably won't bother to tell us and tbh I couldn't really care less - I hate these SAT's with a vengeance.

I'm pleased with dd, she is a caring popular girl who in her ideal world wants to go to Malory Towers in September that ain't going to happen.

well done to those who are interested btw

magnolia1 · 17/07/2007 13:21

There is no level 4 for ks1 sats.

I have twins who are very different. Dt1 got all 3's exept in maths where she got a 2a

Dt2 got all 3's exept in writing where she got a 2a.

But I must admit they don't know that and we haven't made a big deal of it at all. The next school shuffles them about again after a few weeks anyway

RosaLuxembourg · 17/07/2007 14:43

All threes for DD2 and am over the moon for her as DD1 seems to be considered by and sundry to be the family genius and DD2 has done better than she did - good for DD2's morale and DD1 doesn't mind at all being a kind and gentle child.

wheresmysuntan · 17/07/2007 16:40

There seems to be alot of conflicting info as to what levels do and don't get done at the end of key stage 1. All I know is that it says on my dd's report that she got a 4 for her reading. I mentioned to the teacher that I was very pleased and she said that dd was already a 3 back in September so she tried her with a level 4 so she could see how far she had progressed ( otherwise it doesn't look too good for the teacher).I don't think level 4 was done for any other subjects though. Presumably as Reading is something they test on a one to one it was easy to try a higher level on a child by child basis? Also whilst dd is in a class of 30 there are only 20 year 2 kids (mixed year classes in a smallish school) so perhaps the teacher was able to make time per child than is usually the case ?

MummyPenguin · 17/07/2007 16:44

Ah, my little lamb got 2b's although he did better than we expected and his report wasn't as poor as we'd feared either. The family rebel, is DS2 After me, natch. His teacher did say to me though that since they've collected the results, he's shown that he's capable of better.

I really don't pay too much heed to these SATS, especially the yr 2 ones.

What did your child get, Sep1712?

Tra-la-la, tra-la-lee.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 17/07/2007 17:00

I thought these were all done with no input from the teachers, not on a one-to-one basis. So for Reading, for example, they had to read a text and answer questions in writing in an exam notebook, not read out to the teacher and talk to her.

Also, Speaking & Listening? I thought it was just 3 separate subjects: Maths, Reading and Writing. Do they vary between schools?

At DS's school they only assessed if they were levels 2a, 2b, 2c and if more than that just globally as level 3, not in any more detail for level 3. Anyway, not really important, as we can see on here how difficult it is to compare and get any common idea of what it's all about.

sep1712 · 17/07/2007 20:52

DS1 got all 3's so over the moon but more so with his wonderful report. Had a hard year with 4 teachers a house move to a derelict house and a new baby, so i'm very proud and impressed. Inspired me to try and spend more time with DS2 aged3 as do they do tend to get less attention than the first don't they.
Can they get a level 4??? Didn't really understand. Didn't get his brains from me!!
Its been quite funny in the play ground. Most of the mums with kids with good results bragging and mums with low results say that its a stuiped idea to have SATS. Don't think you should take it seriously but is a great gadge to see what there upto. Better save for uni now!! ha ha

Ds1 is only in year 1 but he sat year 2 SATs back in Feb when he was still 5 (along with a few others in his class) - didn't get results for them though. Our school is very secretive when it comes to giving test results out which is very irritating. I think we do get the results when they sit them officially in year 2.

For year 1 we are awaiting PIPS results but we may not get these till Sept.

pigsinmud · 17/07/2007 21:30

All 3s here for ds2 .... worried he may have peaked too early!! Ds1 was NOT impressed, but he's doing wonderfully too!

MamaMaiasaura · 17/07/2007 21:36

All 3's here except handwriting 2B apparantly he is actually mostly a 3 there in terms of formation, punctuation, spelling etc. He gets bored tho and prefers to talk about his ideas than write them down .. I dont mind, as long as he is happy am sure he will be fine. Teacher not at o=cnocerned either and said the handwriting comes with maturity lol.

They cant get 4's. Spe1712 - am in same boat in being more pleased with ds's overall report. I am so very very proud of ds. He is simply fab. He only had 80% attendance as been quite poorly and he still wokred really hard and maanged to keep up, kind and polite etc some really nice persoal comments iykwim

alisonmc · 18/07/2007 10:48

DS got 3's across the board !

wheresmysuntan - A KS1 pupil cannot be tested at a level 4 simply because infant/primary schools do not teach 5-7 year olds level 4 work which is aimed at 10-11 age group. The concepts and structure required for a level 4 are just to hard for a 6-7 year old child to achieve given that they have only just starting learning the basics of KS1 from year 1 onwards. I don't see how a 6-7 year old can achieve a level 4 - it simply doesn't fit with the National Curriculum's teaching and learning strategies.

FYI > DS has been described as "exceptional" at reading and comprehension (with a reading age of 13.9 years at 7.6 years)but the maximum he was awarded was a 3, because comprehension required for a level 4 paper is beyond any 6-7 year old. The 4 mark for reading simply does not fit and cannot be right, unless the school has marked favourably.
