Our school had a meeting for parents prior to the SATs to explain the marks etc. The teacher actually said that they only awarded L3 in extreme circumsatnces because the range for L3 is so large so, it puts alot of pressure on the child to keep up the standard. They did however award L3s 30% reading,6% writing, 30% speaking & listening, 24% maths and 21 % science.
DS did v well however DH who is a primary school teacher says there is no way he is a level 3 in writing (which is what he got) so we should not be too concerned if he seems to stagnate to a certain extent next year.

I imagine there is a difference in results between the schools where the SATs are marked externally and those that are Teacher assessed (though there shouldn't be).
Our LEA is all Teacher Assessed - part of a pilot I think.

Anyway the really important bit is not the actual SATs levels but the Value Added SCores ie. where they started compared with where they are.

Interestingly only one parent asked me about DSs results but only because she had a good idea that he was the 'other boy' who got all 3s and was worried else that the others would think she was showing off.

Showing off about your DCs is absolutely allowed for what ever reason and should be actively encouraged -

Be proud of your kids and make sure they know it Ds knows he did well but we also tell him its because he works hard and listens to his teacher and thats what he has been praised for most. He and his brother also know we are happy when they shows particular kindness to others or is helpful etc.

Whoops I'm getting boring now!!!

do all your kids know what they got? dd didn;t even know she was doing them and certainly doesn;t know her "results". the idea of telling her is, to me, ridiculous. reading her report with her and talking to her about her work and how she feels about it, what she enjoys, what she finds easy and what hard etc, yes. but, like MI, the idea of representing the work she's done in the last 3 years as a number, is pretty bizarre and, yep, repellent. it's a measure for the school, it's purpose is essentially collective, not individual. it has very little to do with my dd

dd1 got all 1s apart from 1w but she has CP, ADHD and learning dificulties so am proud of her anyway

DS got all 3a when he was in yr2 though. The teacher said she really wnated to give him 4s but couldn't. I have 2 children on different ends of the scales but am equally proud of both of them

I would be very very proud of him sparklygothkat

she has probably acheived more than any NT child getting all 3's in everything

year 2 sats should all now be marked in house by class teachers only year 6 sats get sent off, in my borough and surrounding boroughs now. This is because they dont want to make too much of an exam issue.
my son achieved 2a and 2bs and I am very happy with that.

Hatwoman, when DS2 heard me say to DH that we had his SATs results,he piped up with "But we haven't even done them yet have we?"
Well done to Mrs P,his teacher for keeping them low-key.
