Our school had a meeting for parents prior to the SATs to explain the marks etc. The teacher actually said that they only awarded L3 in extreme circumsatnces because the range for L3 is so large so, it puts alot of pressure on the child to keep up the standard. They did however award L3s 30% reading,6% writing, 30% speaking & listening, 24% maths and 21 % science.
DS did v well however DH who is a primary school teacher says there is no way he is a level 3 in writing (which is what he got) so we should not be too concerned if he seems to stagnate to a certain extent next year.
I imagine there is a difference in results between the schools where the SATs are marked externally and those that are Teacher assessed (though there shouldn't be).
Our LEA is all Teacher Assessed - part of a pilot I think.
Anyway the really important bit is not the actual SATs levels but the Value Added SCores ie. where they started compared with where they are.
Interestingly only one parent asked me about DSs results but only because she had a good idea that he was the 'other boy' who got all 3s and was worried else that the others would think she was showing off.
Showing off about your DCs is absolutely allowed for what ever reason and should be actively encouraged -
Be proud of your kids and make sure they know it Ds knows he did well but we also tell him its because he works hard and listens to his teacher and thats what he has been praised for most. He and his brother also know we are happy when they shows particular kindness to others or is helpful etc.
Whoops I'm getting boring now!!!
