I remember reading a thread this time last year about this but my searches have proved fruitless.

About 7 or 8 of us mums will be clubbing together. Last year we bought M&S vouchers and a bunch of flowers.

What would you most like to receive from your pupils and their parents?

TIA

My lovely sixth formers got me a book they knew I would love and a box of chocs. I was very touched.....secondary teachers tend not to get that much stuff! Not 'cool'

hana · 01/07/2007 21:10

at xmas we gave a present to the teacher, and the learning supports who flick back and forth in both receptions classes ( there are 3)

peachygirl · 01/07/2007 21:10

cat you are right but I am always touched when parents do buy lovely things. I am about to back after mat leave tomorrow (gulp) and I got some lovely things from parents for the baby ( I had taught their children for more than one year)

A group of us have clubbed together for John Lewis vouchers.

I bought the school sec flowers a few weeks ago cos she was having a bad week and I thought they might cheer her up.

My dd usually makes a present for her teacher. Like the idea of cub/brownie leaders getting a present! (I'm a Guider!) Perhaps you could make a bigger statement about the fact that we do it FOR NOTHING!!

collision · 01/07/2007 21:12

ds chose his a present for his teacher this year

they have been doing 'minibeasts' for their topic during this half term and when we were in Sainsburys he saw a 'beautiful snail for the garden that Mrs H would LOVE!!'

It is actually really nice but I will tell her it was from Sains so she can exchange it if she hates it!!

collision · 01/07/2007 21:13

I bet teachers get a bit fed up with chocs and smellies dont they?

peachygirl · 01/07/2007 21:13

I love those mad pressie children choose themselves I once got a small sculpture of a clown juggling and one of a baby in a very bubbly bath!

so you would like the snail Peachy?

MaureenMLove · 01/07/2007 21:14

We buy for the lolly pop man too, although he is our school caretaker as well. Poor man is so embarrassed by the mounds of gifts, mostly beer, and he has to carry it all from the crossing into school!

BalletMum · 01/07/2007 21:15

I think we all appreciate anything really but I always really like to have wine as it keeps (however not for long in our house!)Vouchers for shops, meal or theatre would be lovely.

I am not a fan of candles as I do get loads and there are only so many you can have on display/burn. Chocolates are nice but I did get 83 boxes one Christmas (gave a lot away to Boots present appeal)

(I am a Ballet teacher so teach 200 children a week hence the huge amount-think the mums secretly want me to put on weight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

gess · 01/07/2007 21:15

I send in a big box of chocs to share around- there are so many people who work in ds1's classroom and school, can't possibly buy them all something.

Not sre about ds2 - will have to think. Prob the same.

peachygirl · 01/07/2007 21:15

last year I got a sign with I think a butterfly on it saying 'I'm in the garden'

popsycal · 01/07/2007 21:15

grateful for anything
but if you are twisting my arm....
red wine please

MrsScavo · 01/07/2007 21:15

mattian bishop, you must be a lovely, lovely teacher to be given a book by your 6th formers.

I gave DS1's really brilliant teacher Champagne at Christmas (because I wanted to thank her for a sparkly term) and flowers on her birthday. We've had a lot of meetings with the head this term, so I was thinking of giving him a bottle of whisky.... is this apropriate? I'm not sure about what to give the class teacher. Aparently she's getting maried in the summer, so I thought somthing small and weddingy.

noonar · 01/07/2007 21:16

what i'd really like, mckenzie, is to reach the end of term without another thread, complaining... "why the f*ck should i buy a present for ds/dd's teacher. after all they are only doing what they're paid for..."

good thread. this one, i like!

tigerschick · 01/07/2007 21:16

Not read thread - sorry - but I was always grateful for anything and never expected anything, but either:

Something home made or personal to the children.

Wine!!

bewilderbeast · 01/07/2007 21:19

my mum's favourite ever present was a dough doll one of the mum's had made it was up in the kitchen for years, her worst were alcoholic ones as she didn't drink except for the year that the lovely but badly behaved boy saved up his pocket money for months and bought her wine, that just made her cry

calordan · 01/07/2007 21:19

am i only one shocked at paying a tenner for each teacher that, including school, playgoup, guides, brownies, TA s would be about 150 quid
