Please can someone advise . I am appealing for a year 5 place ( we left the school 2 yrs ago) but moving back to the area now.
I have asked school for PAN numbers for past 10 years and the class sizes for those years - in order to prove they have had larger classes in the past . The school will not give me these figures - they have only given me the numbers on roll on June 7th!
Do they have to supply these figures and numbers I have asked for ??

No-one has mentioned the role of the Clerk in this. Who is the Clerk? You can contact them regarding getting reasonable information. Is the Clerk independent? They have to ensure the rules are followed. It’s their job.

It is indeed their job. Unfortunately some clerks aren't very good at it. But, if the school isn't answering questions, it may be worth alerting the clerk to see if they can help.

Thank you everyone .
I am having to ask the school questions as they do their own admissions . How do I know they are being honest in how they answer ? They seem to be the only ones who know the answers to my questions.

I have asked the school again for the numbers and asked how they coped when the gave gone over 30 before . I am waiting for a response.

I have been very short and blunt with them because they are being so unhelpful - I find it very sad considering we used to actually go to the school .

This is what I sent them

is vital to know these figures as it will show if the school has accommodated more than 30 per class - as this is my appeal

Paragraph 2.8 of the Admission Appeals Code states that admission authorities must comply with requests from parents for information which they need to help them prepare their case for appeal. Could I please ask for the previous 5 years ?

In response to the response from the Chairman of the Governors if ,"Admissions Panel" means the appeal panel, they should not be involved in deciding what information you should get to help with your appeal. The response as a whole suggests that the appeal panel is not genuinely independent.

I certainly do not think it is up to the Governors to say whether or not the appeal panel will look at the admissions history. And, to put it bluntly, if the school has been over PAN previously, regardless of the reason, this is something the appeal panel will be interested in as it suggests the school can cope with more pupils.

Would it also be possible to send me evidence to support the schools claim that it would be detrimental to admit My daughter.

The school would be very silly if they didn't give honest answers. The LGO/ESFA (whichever is appropriate) would come down hard on them if they had lied to the appeal panel or to you.

Personally I wouldn't have bothered asking how they coped. The numbers are all you need. If they've been over PAN before it is clear they have coped. The panel won't need to know how they coped.

Prior to the hearing you will get the school's case to refuse admission. That will detail how they think it will be detrimental to the school to admit an additional pupil. If it doesn't the appeal panel should admit your child.

Thank you - I feel like I am really annoying the school and the Governors !! My grumpy email probably doesn’t help
!
